George riley super league trophy

After an opening weekend of surprise results, Hull FC host the Wigan Warriors at the MKM Stadium on Friday (20:00 GMT) with the champions coming off a losing start at home to Leigh Leopards in the first ever 0-0 80-minute draw in Betfred Super League history.

And as they bid to bounce back from that golden-point epic, Wigan would probably not have chosen to travel to bogey side Hull FC, who enjoyed great success against the Warriors last term and opened up with a stunning win at Catalans. Here are my Hull FC vs Wigan Warriors predictions, with full team news and match odds to boot.

Hull FC vs Wigan Warriors Betting Tips

  • Handicap 3-way Wigan -12 @ 21/20
  • Jai Field anytime tryscorer @ 5/4

Hull FC vs Wigan Warriors Odds

You might think that a 24-4 win away to the Catalans Dragons in round one would narrow Hull FC's price for this one significantly, but the 7/2 available for the Airlie Birds implies just a 22.2% probability of a home win.

But even if you take their entire Betfred Super League record at the MKM into account, FC have a 33.3% win rate in 24 matches against the Warriors. And those odds look even more appealing when considering that Hull have won the last three clashes with Wigan in west Hull, with the visitors' last win there coming back in September 2021.

Wigan are heavy 2/9 favourites for the two competition points, with the 2-way handicap the more likely route to value. There, the Warriors are 5/6 to win against an 11.5-point start, with Hull 10/11 under that scenario.

The draw is available at 20/1, despite it's two-from-six return over the opening weekend.

Team News

Wigan will travel with the same 21-man squad as featured in that memorable home loss against the Leopards. The one potential change is Abbas Miski, who is yet to feature in 2025 after his delayed return to pre-season from Australia. When he is fit Miski is a certain starter, but youngster Zach Eckersley has so far been used on the right wing outside Adam Keighran.

Ethan Havard remains out with a hamstring injury, and Brad O'Neill (ACL) is a long-term absentee.

Hull have a few missing this week after their impressive win in the south of France and make four changes to their initial squad. Hooker Amir Bourouh failed his head injury assessment and since then former Man of Steel Zak Hardaker has also been ruled out with a groin issue that the club are unwilling to risk.

Oliver Holmes is also out with a knee problem after seeing a specialist, while prop Jack Ashworth has been laid low by illness and may not feature despite being named in the squad.

Ed Chamberlain though could be back after his ankle injury

Handicap 3-way Wigan -12 @ 21/20

If you had told me one of these sides would be going into this fixture with a win, and the other off the back of a defeat, I would not have picked Hull FC to be looking down on Wigan in the early-season table.

I did not have Wigan slipping up at home to Leigh and I certainly did not have Hull coming away from Perpignan with a victory at the Dragons.

That said, I am sticking to my guns this week and expect normal service to resume, although quite what normal service is at the moment is a point of some debate. Hull FC beat Wigan in this fixture last season despite having a pretty horrid run all year, so they will certainly fancy inflicting a bit more misery on the champions.

Can Hull win again? Absolutely. Will they? I'm still favouring Wigan, even with what I saw from Hull in France last weekend.

For Wigan to start a season with back-to-back defeats is unthinkable for me, and I'm tipping them to see through a banana skin here.

Jai Field anytime scorer @ 5/4

If we are trusting Wigan to come good this weekend then we are certainly trusting in their main strike players to step up.

Liam Marshall, Jai Field and Bevan French will be the players to win this for Wigan, in what many expect will be another really tough night at the office for Matt Peet's side.

A bit of stardust from Field or French would be my game-swinger, with Field an implied 44.4% shot for a try at any point.
