The NRL season enters Round 16 this weekend and the opening fixture on the slate takes place at Suncorp Stadium on Friday, when the fourth-place Dolphins host table-toppers Melbourne Storm.

With just three places and four points separating these two, it promises to be an enthralling battle in Brisbane, with attack expected to favour defence in this contest.

Team news

State of Origin duties means the Dolphins are without Felise Kaufusi, with his place taken by veteran prop Jesse Bromwich, who returns from a rib injury to face his former club.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is also unavailable due to his involvement with Queensland, meaning Trai Fuller gets another opportunity to impress, while Tevita Pangai Junior is named on the bench after being signed mid-season following a stint in boxing.

As for Melbourne, Xavier Coates and Harry Grant are in Origin camp and unavailable for selection, but there is better news with Ryan Papenhuyzen returning from an ankle injury to make his first appearance since Round 9.

Sua Fa'alogo and Will Warbrick are the starting wings, while Grant Anderson comes into centre and Bronson Garlick gets the nod at hooker.

Dolphins vs Melbourne Storm odds

Table-toppers Melbourne Storm are the 1/2 favourites to pick up the win, with the draw priced at 20/1 and the Dolphins 13/8 to claim the spoils on home soil. Melbourne are 11/10 on the handicap -8, while Over 48.5 points is priced at 10/11.

Melbourne Storm to win @ 1/2

Melbourne have been in fantastic form this season, winning 10 of their 13 games to sit top of the table on 24 points, and they can record their 11th win of the campaign at Suncorp Stadium.

The Storm triumphed 38-24 at the Warriors last time out, making it three away victories from their last four, and they are clicking into gear nicely right now.

It isn't the same story for the Dolphins, though, who have been inconsistent over the last few weeks with one win and two defeats from their last three assignments.

That victory did come last time out, a 30-28 victory at the Sharks, but they have been poor at home of late with two defeats from their last three outings at Suncorp.

While this should be an attacking contest, Melbourne look to have the quality to come through this.

Both teams to score 20+ points @ 21/20

Betfred are offering a price boost on both teams to score 20+ points, the odds moving from 5/6 to 21/20, and it is hard to ignore that given the attacking prowess of the two sides.

Melbourne have scored 354 points this season, the joint third-highest record in the division, while the Dolphins are not far behind with a tally of 341.

The Dolphins have scored 20 or more points in 10 of their 13 NRL matches, while the same bet has landed in six of the Storm's last seven games.
