Sunday’s Betfred Championship Grand Final sees two of the strongest candidates for a place in Super League 2026 face off, and you can watch all the action live on The Sportsman Rugby League.

York Knights and Toulouse Olympique both harbour ambitions of being selected for the top flight as part of the planned expansion to 14 teams, and when they meet at the LNER Community Stadium they’ll both be aiming to strengthen their case.

The Knights finished top of the Championship at the end of the 24-round regular season, chalking up 20 wins under head coach Mark Applegarth.

That haul included a crucial 16-8 win away to Toulouse in round 23, which opened the way for York to finish top spot ahead of Sunday’s visitors.

Applegarth then led his side to a 30-18 victory over Halifax Panthers in last Saturday’s play-off semi-final, with Toa Mata’afa grabbing a pair of tries and Kieran Buchanan, Scott Galeano and Ben Jones-Bishop also crossing.

Toulouse, for their part, were runners-up to the Knights after a similarly dominant campaign.

They booked their spot in this Sunday’s showdown with a sensational comeback victory over Bradford Bulls at the Ernest Wallon Stadium last weekend.

Sylvain Houles’ side trailed 16-0 at the break, but two tries from Olly Ashall-Bott helped to inspire them to a 24-20 success which sees them return to a stadium where they beat York 7-6 back in round two of the 2025 season.

Both sides go into the contest knowing that victory alone won’t be enough to secure a spot in Super League next season, with the annual IMG grading report set to confirm the first 12 participants and the final two entrants being chosen by a panel.
