Horse Racing Tips: Cape can conquer rivals at Brighton

Tuesday 9th June 2026, 8:51

There are five meetings scheduled to take place across Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, with a good mix of both Flat and jumps. The afternoon action gets underway at Salisbury (2.18pm), closely followed by Southwell's jumps card at 2.30pm.

We then head to Sligo (5.20pm) for the first of the evening cards, prior to Carlisle (6.12pm) and Brighton (6.21pm). Among our Tuesday fancies is one for trainer Tony Carroll who ran well in defeat at Windsor last time and who remains open to plenty more improvement.

Horse Racing Tips - Tuesday 9 June 2026

  • 15:18 Salisbury - Supreme King @ 4/1
  • 19:42 Carlisle - Qila @ 11/2

Horse Racing Odds

15:18 Salisbury - Supreme King @ 4/1

David Evans has only had two winners in the past fortnight, but the majority of his runners during that period have acquitted themselves well and I'm confident that SUPREME KING will do the same.

The six-year-old gelding enjoyed an excellent start to this year, winning back-to-back handicaps on the AW at Newcastle and Kempton off marks of 71 and 73 under apprentice Ryan Kavanagh.

He's not been able to add to those victories in four subsequent starts, but he’s posted some good efforts in defeat, including when running to a Racing Post Rating of 81 at Chelmsford.

His record on turf (1-25) isn’t particularly encouraging, but he's finished runner-up six times on the surface and was particularly impressive when slamming his rivals by six lengths on good to soft ground at Doncaster a little over a year ago. Conditions should be similar here.

19:42 Carlisle - Qila @ 11/2

Brian Ellison's QILA makes plenty of appeal on his handicap debut, having shaped well on his return from wind surgery at Newcastle last month.

The three-year-old son of Havana Gold ran to Racing Post Ratings of 59 when fourth and fifth at Newcastle and Pontefract respectively last season, both efforts worth marking up having found traffic problems and been slowly away.

He looked to have done well physically over the winter months and improved significantly on his juvenile efforts when runner-up on his seasonal return three weeks ago, keeping on nicely for second and splitting a pair of market leaders.

He's entitled to strip fitter for that run and looks a major player off this opening official mark of 73.

20:21 Brighton - Cape Toronada @ 5/2

A Brighton meeting rarely goes by without a Tony Carroll winner and CAPE TORONADA is hard to oppose in this three-year-old handicap, having caught the eye at Windsor last time.

A maiden after six starts, she's bred for middle distances, but has run to Racing Post Ratings matching her current official mark of 53 the last twice over sprint trips; beaten a length at Bath and a similar margin at Windsor, the latter when sent-off favourite.

She's open to plenty more improvement on only his third turf start and should be well served by this track's stiff uphill finish.
