US Masters 2025 Betting Tips: Jamie’s two picks from the Specials market

The beginning of the 89th Masters Tournament is just two days away and before delving into the first-round leader betting tomorrow, I’ve chosen a couple of selections from the vast array of extra markets to give us some added US Masters 2025 betting tips.

4 pts Corey Conners Top Canadian @ 1/1
Corey Conners has really started to find form in recent starts and possesses an excellent record at Augusta National. In a four-man market that includes a debutant, a player who finished second-to-last here last year and a Champions Tour player, he looks great value to be the Top Canadian at even money.
Conners finished fifth in The Sentry on his first start of the season and although following with some generally underwhelming displays on the West Coast, his form has picked up as the PGA Tour headed east. He claimed his first top 10 of the season when third in the Arnold Palmer Invitational four starts ago and has since followed with finishes of sixth in THE PLAYERS Championship, eighth in the Valspar Championship and 18th in last week’s Texas Open.
The ball striking is looking strong, ranking 19th off-the-tee, 23rd in greens-in-regulation and though initially lacking precision in approach, it’s improved across those last four starts, over which time he ranks 24th in this field. However, it’s the improved short game that catches the eye most of all this year, ranking 72nd both around-the-greens and in putting as opposed to being outside the top 120 in each area in 2024.
These short-game improvements are a real plus for a player who has coped just fine at this course due to his long game in the past. Having missed the cut as an amateur in 2015, he has returned to make five of six cuts as a pro, which includes top-10 finishes of sixth in 2022, eighth in 2021 and 10th in 2020 – more than his three compatriots combined.
Of those other Canadians, Mike Weir is of course a past winner, but the 54-year-old Champions Tour competitor has only made one of his last 10 cuts here. Meanwhile, Nick Taylor was 87th of 89 players last year and although Taylor Pendrith has the ball-striking game to handle this test, I’d expect his short game to let him down on debut, with him not yet having experienced the intricacies of these greens and their surrounds.
That leaves Conners as the standout candidate in this market and one of my favourite bets of the week.

2 pts Davis Thompson Top Debutant @ 6/1
The Top Debutant market for this event is always a competitive one and it’s typically tough to predict how someone will handle the demands of The Masters on their first try. That being said, as a three-time All American at the University of Georgia and having visited Augusta as a child, former number one amateur and superb tee-to-green player, Davis Thompson jumps off the page.
Thompson has been solid enough this year after a 2024 campaign that saw him earn his PGA Tour breakthrough in the John Deere Classic, but he struggled to threaten the top of the leaderboard too often early on. However, he’s recorded his two best finishes across his last five starts, finishing 13th in the Genesis Invitational and 10th in THE PLAYERS Championship, and with his irons finally starting to fire, he looks primed to produce a bold showing on his Masters debut.
The driver has been the key weapon throughout the season on the whole, combining power and accuracy to rank 23rd off-the-tee. Whilst he’s also among the top-15 approach players in this field across his last five starts. That ball-striking prowess considered, it’s his ability around-the-greens that really excites for this test; an area in which he ranked fifth on the PGA Tour last season and is a more-than-competent 34th this.
Georgia-born Thompson lists attending a practice round at the 2011 Masters as one of his favourite golfing memories and he now gets the chance to tackle this setup for himself.
A ninth-place finish in the US Open at Pinehurst last year bodes well for his chances of producing a positive showing and with one of the most consistent tee-to-green games on tour in the last couple of years, I expect him to sit atop that mini-leaderboard of debutants this week.
