Wednesday 1st October 2025, 12:28pm

It’s forecast to be a fine day in Mississippi for tomorrow’s first round of the Sanderson Farms Championship. However, despite conditions being pleasant throughout, it may pay to side with the earliest starters at the Country Club of Jackson.

Our resident golf tipster Jamie Worsley has picked out four players who could take advantage of this, so check out his Sanderson Farms Championship 2025 FRL Tips with us here at Betfred Insights below...

All players look set to enjoy warm temperatures and sunshine during Thursday’s opening round. Although the wind isn’t forecast to be severe at any point, it will be flat calm for those first players out, with nothing stronger than a faint 3-4mph breeze before 9am.

It is scheduled to steadily rise from then, with general speeds reaching 8-9mph. These will be accompanied by increasingly strong gusts, which are predicted to hit 15mph by midday, rising to around 20mph later in the afternoon.

With that, I’m going to focus exclusively on the very earliest tee times to try and solve this week’s first-round leader puzzle, with all four selections teeing off before 8am.

1 pt Patrick Fishburn each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 60/1

Start time: 7.05am

Patrick Fishburn is currently enjoying his most consistent run of results in 2025, ranking 7th in this field in SG: Total over the last three months. He also ranks among the best first-round performers during that period and as a reasonably long hitter, he can take advantage of tomorrow morning’s benign conditions.

Fishburn hasn’t missed a cut in his last six starts and has recorded two top-10s, finishing 6th at the ISCO Championship and 8th in the Wyndham Championship – an event that he closed with a pair of 65s.

He ranks 11th in putting and 20th from tee-to-green across those starts and is 13th in first-round performance. He has opened with an under-par round in each and started particularly swiftly in the 3M Open and Wyndham Championship, beginning with a 66 in both events.

Fishburn took to this course right away on debut last year, shooting a five-under 67 in round one and with his game in tip-top shape, he has every chance of improving on that come Thursday.

0.75 pts Mac Meissner each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 70/1

Start time: 7.05am

After enduring a largely disappointing second season on the PGA Tour, Mac Meissner has suddenly come to life in recent starts as he aims to retain his tour card. He showed promise in Jackson last year, finishing 37th, and with his long game now in a stronger place than at any other point in 2025, he’s perfectly positioned to make a quick start.

Meissner arrived at the 3M Open three starts ago having missed his last five cuts but turned things around with a 14th-place finish. He was even more impressive next time, finishing a distant 2nd to Cameron Young in the Wyndham Championship, and he then produced a solid display last time out in the Procore Championship, ranking 19th from tee-to-green on his way to a finish of 47th.

He ranks 1st among this group of players in SG: Total over those last three full-field events and has been firing low rounds for fun. His 3M Open result came courtesy of four rounds in the 60s and this scoring power was again on show at the Wyndham Championship, where he began with a five-under 65 to sit 8th after round one before going even better with a 63 on day two.

Meissner shot rounds of 66 and 67 as he posted that 37th-place finish here last year, and if continuing in the same vein of form, expect to see his name appear near the top of the leaderboard tomorrow.

0.75 pts Luke List each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 80/1

Start time: 7.38am

Luke List has had a dismal time of it on the PGA Tour in 2025, and it’s going to take a big turnaround for him to keep his place on tour for next season. That said, there have been signs of life recently and as a player who has won and finished 2nd here, he’s more than capable of finding that low one that will be required to hit the front on Thursday.

List recorded his first solo top-25 of the season five starts ago in the ISCO Championship, finishing 8th. He failed to build on that in his next two starts but looked much livelier in the Procore Championship last time out, shooting four sub-par rounds to finish 30th.

He gained strokes with every club in the bag in California and also ranked 3rd in greens-in-regulation. Whilst he’s sacrificed a little power this year for greater accuracy, he still gets the ball out there and despite being an iffy putter, he’s generally gone well on these surfaces.

List won here in 2023 – an event in which he shot two 66s to sit 2nd at the halfway point. He fired rounds of 65 and 66 when finishing 2nd in 2016, and closed with a 65 in 2021, providing further evidence of his ability to score heavily at the Country Club of Jackson.

0.75 pts Peter Malnati each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 125/1

Start time: 7.38am

I’m going to finish with another player who has won and finished 2nd here, Peter Malnati. This typically inconsistent player arrives in Mississippi having made six of his last nine cuts and with some encouraging signs in approach on his last two starts, this looks a suitable time to strike.

Malnati has been renowned for his putting throughout his career, and he’s recently put things right after struggling with the club to begin this year, ranking 3rd on the greens over the last three months.

It helped him to a season’s best 14th in the ISCO Championship five starts ago – where he opened with a five-under 65 to sit 2nd at the conclusion of day one. Although he followed that with two missed cuts, he’s made his last two, finishing 62nd in the Wyndham Championship and 57th in the Procore Championship.

He again did his best work in the Procore on day one, shooting a three-under 69 to move into 20th place after 18 holes. The putter fired there once more, but it was his approach play that offered the most promise, producing his best numbers of the season to rank 22nd.

Malnati’s lack of quality with the driver has made a course such as the Country Club of Jackson – where players aren’t punished too harshly for waywardness – a happy hunting ground. He shot rounds of 69-66-68-67 to win here in 2015 and has since made seven of his next nine cuts, which includes shooting a final-round 63 to finish 2nd in 2019.

Furthermore, just two years ago, his opening 66 was enough to finish the first round in 4th place – offering added optimism in relation to him topping the leaderboard on Thursday.
