This 80-man field will tee off at 8.45am tomorrow – with 40 at Pebble Beach and 40 at Spyglass Hill. Conditions look set to be cool and dreary early before brightening in the afternoon, with a mild breeze of 7-9mph throughout.
Due to all players teeing off within a narrow two-hour window, there is little chance of a draw bias developing, meaning we can pick freely across all tee-times. With two separate first-round leader markets in play, I’ve selected one player from each venue who I’m hoping can hit the front on day one.
Ryan Gerard
(Spyglass Hill) 1.5 pts Ryan Gerard each-way (1/5 - 5 places) @ 28/1
Start time: 10.42am
With three runner-up finishes across his last four starts, there are few players performing as strongly as Ryan Gerard at present. He is making his debut in this event, but he’s typically excellent by the coast and with his wedges singing at the beginning of 2026, he can find another low round tomorrow.
Gerard ended 2025 with a 2nd-place finish in Mauritius on the DP World Tour that took him inside the world’s top 50, earning him a spot at The Masters.
He’s maintained that form at the start of the PGA Tour season, finishing 2nd to Chris Gotterup at the Sony Open and 2nd to Scottie Scheffler at The AmEx, before recording an 11th-place finish on his latest start at Torrey Pines.
The American’s hitting the ball accurately and has made a notable improvement on the greens, catching the eye when 8th with the putter on the poa surfaces at the Farmers Insurance Open. Meanwhile, his all-round profile for this test is enhanced by a thriving wedge game.
Gerard won his only PGA Tour title in California at last year’s Barracuda Championship. He can lean on that positivity here, and arriving with a 63, two 64s, and two 65s across his last 16 rounds, he’s in the type of low-scoring form that makes him a danger at Spyglass Hill.

(Pebble Beach) 1.5 pts Wyndham Clark each-way (1/5 - 5 places) @ 30/1
Start time: 10.16am
Over to Pebble Beach now, where Wyndham Clark gets the nod. He set the course record here with an incredible 12-under 60 on his way to winning this title in 2024, and with promising signs on offer in the opening events of the year, he could just be hitting top gear at the perfect time.
Clark’s 2025 wasn’t quite as strong as the previous two seasons but there were still several attention-grabbing displays, including a 4th-place finish at The Open. He then began this new campaign brightly, entering the final round of The AmEx two shots off the lead following rounds of 66, 64, and 66, but he had to settle for an 11th-place finish after a final-round 72.
The 2023 U.S. Open winner wasn’t able to build on that at Torrey Pines two starts ago, finishing 65th. However, he was much more encouraging in Phoenix, responding admirably to an opening 73 with three rounds in the 60s to rise from 89th on day one to 35th at week’s end, gaining strokes throughout the bag.
Clark developed into an excellent wedge player at his peak a few years ago, ranking 2nd inside 100 yards in 2024. They’re again looking sound in the opening weeks of this year, helping him make plenty of birdies, and with the memories of that sublime 60 to call on, I expect him to be among the frontrunners at Pebble Beach on Thursday.
