FedEx St. Jude Championship 2025 FRL Tips: Three Names to Know for the Opening 18 Holes

The PGA Tour has made its way to Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Championship this week and action gets underway at 07:20 local time on Thursday morning when Matti Schmid will tee off alone to get the tournament underway. Our man Jamie enjoyed a nice each-way win this market last week when Aaron Rai scored a 63 to be joint-third through 18 holes and stretched his ROI on PGA Tour FRL bets this year to a sweet 48.26%
Our resident golf tipster has picked out three more to consider backing each-way, check out his FedEx St. Jude Championship 2025 FRL Tips with us here at Betfred Insights below...

The FedExCup Playoffs get underway tomorrow in Memphis, where a 69-man field will tee off at TPC Southwind in the St. Jude Championship.
There's more than a trophy on the line this week: only the top 50 in the FedExCup standings will advance to the BMW Championship, with the ultimate goal being a spot at East Lake for the Tour Championship in two weeks' time. Given what's at stake, a fast start is essential.
The weather forecast for tomorrow looks even throughout, with sunny, warm conditions and little wind. This allows us to pick freely across the tee times and I've selected three players who can hit the front on Thursday.
Ben Griffin
Start time: 09:35
Not only has Ben Griffin been one of the best players in this field over the last three months, but he's also among the strongest first-round performers. TPC Southwind should be a great track for him if his victory at Colonial is any indication, and after rediscovering form with the putter last week following a couple of unusually subdued efforts, he looks primed to fly out of the blocks in Memphis.
The American has been the tour's most improved player in 2025, with a newfound level of ball-striking helping him to two victories – the first in the Zurich Classic alongside Andrew Novak, and his second coming at Colonial back in May. He also recorded major championship top-10s in the PGA Championship and US Open, and following missed cuts in the John Deere Classic and Open Championship, he returned to form with an 11th-place finish at the Wyndham Championship last week.
He ranked 2nd on the greens there and it's with the putter he excels most, ranking 4th in this field since the beginning of May. Having said that, he's gaining strokes in every area and has been almost as impressive with his irons of late, ranking 14th in approach over that same period.
His recent results have featured several low rounds, including signing off with a 65 at Sedgefield Country Club and a 63 in round two of his Charles Schwab Challenge victory. Several other low rounds have come in round one, such as a 65 to take the first-round lead in the Memorial Tournament, and he ranks 4th in first-round performance over the last three months.
Griffin has played here twice before, finishing a solid 24th in 2023 and 50th last year, shooting two 66s over those eight rounds. He's playing at a much higher level now and if he can fire a 63 at a course like Colonial, he can find a similarly low score here.

Lucas Glover
Start time: 11:40
Lucas Glover won this event back in 2023 but didn't get the chance to defend his title last year. He'll relish his return to TPC Southwind – a course at which he's shot 8/8 rounds in the 60s on his last two visits – and in fine form, he can rise to the top of the leaderboard on day one.
Glover achieved some impressive results at the beginning of the season, finishing 3rd at Pebble Beach and TPC Sawgrass. He experienced a drop in form as major season started, though his performances have improved of late, with finishes of 9th in the Travelers Championship, 5th in the John Deere Classic, and 23rd in The Open across his last four starts.
As ever, it's his precision with the long game that has driven his better displays, ranking 11th in driving accuracy and 24th in approach this season. Meanwhile, his long-standing weakness – the putter – had looked sound in the three starts prior to his missed cut in last week's Wyndham Championship.
His standout first-round performance this season came in THE PLAYERS Championship, where he opened with a six-under 66 to finish day one tied for the lead. Although he hasn't been as good over the first 18 holes since, he did finish round one of The Open in 10th place. I'm also encouraged by the fact that many of his lower rounds have come on similarly strategic tree-lined layouts – shooting two 64s in the John Deere Classic and a 64 in the Charles Schwab Challenge.
It took Glover a little bit of time to find his feet at TPC Southwind, failing to finish inside the top 40 on any of his first five trips. However, nobody has played better here in the last three years, finishing 3rd in 2022 and of course, winning in 2021 – shooting a 64, a 65, and three 66s in the process.

Cam Davis
Start time: 10:15
Cam Davis has been wildly out of form since his 19th-place finish in the PGA Championship in May. Scraping into this week's field in 69th position in the FedExCup standings, he'll need a big performance in Memphis to advance to next week's BMW Championship. There were encouraging signs for the Aussie at Sedgefield Country Club last week, and given his strong record in the St. Jude, I fancy him to make a strong start at TPC Southwind.
Davis made a promising start to this season, recording three top-20s in his first four appearances, and he finished 5th at Pebble Beach. He's largely struggled since, with that top-20 at Quail Hollow the main bright spot, arriving here having missed five of his previous eight cuts, and recording just one top-50 finish.
That came courtesy of a 44th-place finish last week in the Wyndham Championship. He notably hit the ball with greater precision than he has for several months there, ranking 15th in driving accuracy and 28th in approach. This is hugely encouraging as he arrives at a course where he's often gone well.
Davis has played TPC Southwind four times, recording bests of 6th in 2023 and 13th in 2022. He regularly starts well, shooting an under-par first round on three occasions, which includes a four-under 66 taking him to 5th place after 18 holes in 2023. With several other rounds in the 60s, this is a course that clearly fits his eye and he can prove it tomorrow.
