Crans-sur-Sierre takes centre stage in the golfing world this week, as an intriguing field travels to the Swiss Alps for the Omega European Masters.
The tournament begins amidst potentially turbulent weather on Thursday, but it doesn’t look likely to favour either side of the draw. Temperatures are forecast to be a cool 11C/12C throughout the opening round, with little in the way of wind, though thunderstorms are scheduled to make an appearance in both the morning and afternoon.
That should allow us to pick reasonably freely across tomorrow’s tee times. However, 12 of the last 17 players to at least share a piece of the first-round lead here teed off early. With that in mind, I’m going to take two from the morning wave and one from the afternoon.
0.75 pts Francesco Laporta each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 66/1
Start time: 08:40
My first selection is Italy’s Francesco Laporta. He’s shown an ability to go low at Crans on his last two visits and with his strong form in 2025 engineered by quality iron play, he has the firepower to make plenty of birdies on Thursday morning.
Laporta is enjoying one of his best and most consistent seasons on the DP World Tour, picking up seven top-25 finishes. Meanwhile, his three best performances have come in the last three months, finishing 7th in the KLM Open, 7th in the BMW International Open and 10th in the Italian Open.
The long game has been key to his form, ranking 8th off-the-tee and 20th in approach in this field over that time. He’s fired numerous low rounds, including a pair of 65s in the BMW International Open, while another 65 saw him sit 2nd after the opening round of the Italian Open five starts ago.
Laporta missed the cut on his Crans debut in 2021 but has been considerably better on his next two visits, finishing 16th in 2022 and 27th last year. He’s closed with a six-under 64 in each of those last two starts – a score that would see him contend for the first-round lead tomorrow.

0.75 pts Jason Scrivener each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 80/1
Start time: 12:50
Australian Jason Scrivener is playing top-quality golf at present thanks to improved approach play. He started fast here last year on his way to posting a career-best 4th-place finish, and he looks a lively contender to again find himself near the top of the leaderboard on Thursday.
Scrivener had done little of note in 2025 following his 4th-place finish in the Ras Al Khaimah Championship in January, but he has found form in his last four starts. He finished 8th at altitude in the Barracuda Championship four starts ago and after finishing 42nd in the Nexo Championship, he’s recorded back-to-back top-25s of 12th in the Danish Golf Championship and 24th in the British Masters.
His iron play has been terrific over those starts, ranking 19th in this field and he’s driving the ball with pinpoint accuracy, ranking 5th. It was also encouraging to see him find something on the greens at The Belfry after some recently underwhelming displays with the putter.
Scrivener failed to make a splash in this event on his first four attempts, but he has found his feet in the mountains in the last two years. He shot two 65s on his way to a 36th-place finish in 2023, and after he fired a six-under 64 to sit 3rd after round one last year, before going on to finish 4th, we know he has the game to score well at Crans.

0.75 pts Guido Migliozzi each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 110/1
Start time: 08:10
Having missed his previous six cuts on the spin, Guido Migliozzi showed signs of life in last week’s British Masters. He now arrives at a course where he typically thrives and as an exciting, unpredictable player capable of the spectacular, he’s worth chancing to go low in round one.
Since finishing 49th in the Soudal Open in May, Migliozzi missed each of his following six cuts and was hitting the ball dreadfully. He made a positive start at The Belfry, opening with a two-under 70 to move into the top 20 on day one, and though he slipped down the leaderboard in the middle rounds, he closed with a 69 – the 10th-best score of the final round – to finish 41st.
The Italian relied on his short game there, but, despite not really impressing with his ball-striking, he still hit it better than he has in recent starts. Moreover, Crans is a course at which he’s often overcome shortcomings with his long game to perform strongly.
Migliozzi has played here five times, making each cut and finishing no worse than 38th, with a best of 7th in 2021. He’s started with a round in the 60s on four occasions and has several extremely low rounds besides. This includes a sublime nine-under 61 in the second round in 2023 – which was just a single shot shy of the course record.
