The DP World Tour (DPWT) ends the year with the Mauritius Open this week, and with breezy conditions on the cards for round one, we could see a chaotic scramble to hit the front at Heritage La Reserve Golf Links.

Beginning at 6.10am, the very earliest starters will be welcomed by gusting winds of up to 25mph, which will steadily rise to highs of 32mph by mid-morning. These conditions will stick around throughout the day, causing the same problems for the afternoon wave as they kick off the week at 11.20am.

Light rains are predicted for both groups of players, alongside temperatures of 23-27°C. With little evidence of a significant draw bias, we can pick freely across all tee times as we attempt to crack this week’s first-round leader market.

1 pt Mikael Lindberg each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 50/1

Start time: 6.10am

I’ve got four selections for day one in Mauritius, starting with big-hitting Swede Mikael Lindberg. He’s one of the most in-form players in this field and having opened with an under-par round in each of his last eight starts, there’s every chance he’ll be among the leaders tomorrow.

Lindberg’s 2025 finally caught fire at the Danish Golf Championship back in August, finishing 4th. He hasn’t missed a cut in nine appearances since then, picking up five further top 20s, and he arrives here after an eye-catching 14th-place finish in last week’s Alfred Dunhill Championship.

He ranks 4th in this field in SG: Total over the last three months and has particularly excelled with the driver, ranking 2nd over the same period. In addition, the putter has been on song of late, ranking 12th, whilst we’ve also seen improvements in approach, ranking 18th at Royal Johannesburg.

Lindberg didn’t play here back in 2023, but he did finish a solid 36th at Mont Choisy Le Golf last year. His 5th-place finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this year is another plus, and ranking 3rd in this field in first-round performance over that recent run of results, he’s primed to make a speedy start at La Reserve Golf Links.

1 pt Hennie Du Plessis each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 55/1

Start time: 6.30am

Having been in flying form since returning from an 18-month absence due to wrist injuries, Hennie Du Plessis was a little disappointing when finishing 64th in last week’s Alfred Dunhill Championship. That said, he handled a similar course and conditions extremely well two starts ago at St Francis Links, and with winning amateur form in Mauritius, I’m taking him to immediately bounce back in Thursday’s first round.

Du Plessis dominated the field in the Blue Label Unlimited Challenge on the Sunshine Tour in October – his first outing since the Jonsson Workwear Open in March 2024 – winning by 14 points in Stableford format. He maintained his form on his next two starts, finishing 4th in the Sunshine Tour’s Players Championship, and he was then 2nd in that circuit’s PGA Championship on a windy week at St Francis Links – another dramatically undulating and exposed links-like layout.

Although he finished down the leaderboard at Royal Joburg there was little to cause concern; he still made plenty of birdies and played solidly from tee-to-green. He’s a player who shines with the driver, combining power with accuracy, and though the putter can cause problems, he should appreciate these slower paspalum surfaces.

Du Plessis has failed to make a cut in three attempts at this event, but he hasn’t played since 2019. However, he did win the Indian Ocean Amateur Open in Mauritius back in 2014, and sitting 2nd after 18 holes in two of his last four starts, there are several reasons to fancy his chances in this market.

1 pt Brandon Stone each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 60/1

Start time: 1.00pm

Brandon Stone finished the previous season in poor form but showed signs of life to finish 23rd at Royal Joburg. A strong start provided him with the foundations for that result, and with his tee-to-green game also much improved, this proven links performer looks a danger in round one.

Stone racked up five top-25s on the DPWT over the first half of the year, including a best of 6th in the Indian Open. However, he only recorded one more in the second part of 2025 and has even struggled when teeing it up on the lower level of the Sunshine Tour.

He left that form behind last week, beginning with a superb eight-under 64 to sit 3rd after the first round. Although he dropped down the leaderboard after a 74 in round two, he responded positively with a 67 in the final round to finish 23rd. Ranking 3rd in SG: Off-the-Tee (SG: OTT), 9th in SG: Tee-to-Green (SG: T2G), and 10th in greens-in-regulation (GIR), he can carry that momentum to Mauritius.

Stone has only played this event three times and has an unblemished record, finishing 6th in 2016, 13th in 2019 and 11th in 2022. He’s also a former winner of the Scottish Open (2018), and with a 4th-place finish at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship last year rating as his best result at this level since 2021, I’m confident that the course is a good fit.

0.75 pts Daniel Rodrigues each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 70/1

Start time: 8.10am

Last up is Portuguese youngster Daniel Rodrigues. The rookie really caught the eye Down Under at the beginning of the new season, and as a strong iron player who is no stranger to links golf, this looks like a decent way to get him on side.

Rodrigues was a quality amateur, reaching No. 50 in the rankings after top-class efforts both in Europe and the US. Professional starts haven’t been forthcoming since he turned pro last year but he has had a few more in 2025.

He’s teed it up eight times on the HotelPlanner Tour this campaign and appeared to find his feet in the final two starts of his season, recording back-to-back top-25s in the Open de Portugal and Italian Challenge. This upgraded form continued into this year’s DPWT Q-School Final, as he shot six rounds in the 60s to finish 6th, gaining a spot on the DPWT for this season.

Two appearances in Australia resulted in finishes of 33rd in the Aussie PGA Championship at Royal Queensland and 12th in the Aussie Open at Royal Melbourne. He’s seriously impressed with his iron play in each of these events, ranking 3rd in SG: Approach and 5th in GIR in Melbourne, and he was 15th in SG: Approach and 8th in GIR a week earlier in Queensland. Meanwhile, he also shone with his short game at Royal Melbourne, ranking 5th in SG: Around-the-Greens.

Though bearing some similarities, this is a different type of test for Rodrigues, but he does have some links pedigree, finishing 9th in the 2023 Amateur Championship at Hillside. His second-round 64 in Melbourne – the joint-lowest score of the week – shows that he can take it low and having also started that event well, with a two-under 69 taking him to 12th after round one, he’s got the benefit of recent first-round form under his belt.
