Betfred British Masters Odds

The Betfred British Masters begins tomorrow and with consistent conditions predicted throughout the opening day, the first-round leader market is wide open.

It is forecast to be dry but predominantly cloudy on Thursday, with sunshine occasionally breaking through. Temperatures will be 12C early doors, only rising to highs of 20C over the course of the round and with a gentle 8mph breeze persisting from morning until late afternoon, there is little to separate the two waves.

This should allow us to choose freely from across the tee times, and I’ve picked out four players who can hit the front on day one at The Belfry’s Brabazon Course.

1.25 pts Jesper Svensson each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 35/1

Start time: 08:30

Jesper Svensson performed strongly on his British Masters debut last season, shooting four under-par rounds to finish 5th. He’s hitting the ball superbly at present and collecting low rounds for fun, he can climb to the top of the leaderboard tomorrow.

Svensson’s been enjoying a solid first season on the PGA Tour, missing just five cuts in 20 starts. His performances have been especially promising of late, recording finishes of 14th in the 3M Open and 16th in The Open in his previous four starts.

The Swede finished 29th in last week’s Danish Golf Championship – an event in which he ranked 3rd off-the-tee and 11th in approach. This all-round ball-striking quality has been sustained for three months now, ranking 3rd off-the-tee and 18th in approach among this group of players.

It’s that strength with the long game that has helped him towards several low rounds recently, firing an eight-under 63 in the 3M Open and a six-under 64 in the Scottish Open.

Svensson shot two 69s and two 70s on his way to that 5th-place finish here in 2025 and currently hitting his irons much better, he can go lower on Thursday morning.

0.75 pts Francesco Laporta each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 55/1

Start time: 13:40

Francesco Laporta is playing the best golf of his career in 2025. His three standout results have each come across his last five starts and producing some heavy scoring in these events, I fancy him to make a fast start at The Belfry.

Laporta has picked up seven top-25 finishes this year and prior to struggling on the links in Scotland, he’d recorded consecutive finishes of 7th in the KLM Open, 10th in the Italian Open and 7th in the BMW International Open.

He’s hitting the ball to a high standard, ranking 8th off-the-tee and 20th in approach over the last three months. This has contributed to fantastic rounds of 64 in the Scottish Open, a pair of 65s in the BMW International Open, and a 65 in the first round of the Italian Open, which was enough for him to finish day one in 2nd place.

Laporta finished way down the leaderboard here on debut in 2021, but he has improved with each visit, narrowly missing the cut by one in 2022 and he finished 39th last year. He returns in great shape and if the long game holds up, he’ll create chances tomorrow.

0.75 pts Johannes Veerman each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 70/1

Start time: 08:50

Johannes Veerman has been striking his irons better than most in recent weeks and after finding something on the greens in Denmark, he was able to gain his highest finish of the year. He finally made his mark at The Belfry last year and following a strong start last week, he’s a lively contender to take the early lead.

Veerman has been inconsistent for much of this season, but he has achieved his two best finishes across his last four starts, finishing 13th in the KLM Open, and then 8th in the Danish Golf Championship last week.

He ranks 5th in approach over the previous three months and alongside that enhanced performance on the greens last week, he’s started to better control the driver.

Veerman failed to finish inside the top 70 in his first three starts here. However, he finished 23rd in 2024 due to a final round 68 and found his range with the irons, ranking 3rd in approach.

0.5 pts Lucas Bjerregaard each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 150/1

Start time: 09:30

I’m going to round out my selections with Lucas Bjerregaard. The Dane started positively on his way to a 14th-place finish last week and arriving here after his best effort at The Belfry in 2024, he’s worth chancing at an appealing three-figure price.

Bjerregaard’s performances left a lot to be desired at the beginning of the season, but he’s stepped his performance up since May, recording four top-30 finishes in his last seven starts. His best of which came in the Danish Golf Championship, finishing 14th.

He drove the ball well for the most part in Denmark and besides a poor final round, his irons also looked sharp. A four-under 67 helped him to 7th thru 18 holes at Furesø Golfklub and he repeated the score in round three, which was the third-best performance on Saturday.

Bjerregaard finished 58th on his Brabazon Course debut in the 2020 UK Championship, though failed to make the cut on his next two attempts. He improved considerably last year, finishing 25th, and encouragingly, his six-under 66 in round two was the fifth-lowest round of the week.
