Golf tipster Jamie Worsley has already given us his main preview for this weekend but he's also spotted three angles in the top 20 market. Here are his CJ Cup Byron Nelson Prop Bet tips.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson Top 20 Betting Tips

  • 3 pts Keith Mitchell Top 20 @ 15/8
  • 2 pts Peter Kuest Top 20 @ 10/3
  • 1.5 pts Hayden Springer Top 20 @ 6/1

With thunderstorms still predicted for Thursday’s opening round of the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, it’s difficult to fathom how play will unfold on day one in regards to the first-round leader market. Therefore I’ve decided to swerve it this week.

Instead, I’ve delved into the place markets and landed on three players who I’m expecting to have a good week at TPC Craig Ranch and can secure themselves a top-20 finish.

3 pts Keith Mitchell Top 20 @ 15/8

First up is Keith Mitchell, who was very much on my radar in the outright betting but ultimately I was left preferring others at the prices. However, he has been somewhat of a top-20 machine on tour this season and he looks a good price to land another one this week.

In 11 individual starts this season, Mitchell has recorded six top 20s and missed just two cuts. This impressively consistent run of results has been predominantly down to his elite ball-striking, for which he’s the top-ranked player in this field, ranking 4th off-the-tee and 5th in approach. In addition to that, he ranks 15th in proximity from 200yds+ and 22nd in birdie-or-better % - two important stats for this event.

Though finishing a disappointing 76th here in 2022, he did look better on debut in 2021, finishing 26th. Two 5th-place finishes in the 3M Open and a 7th in the John Deere Classic represent some handy form on similar setups and with how well he’s hitting the ball at the minute, I’d be surprised to not see him inside the top 20 come Sunday evening.

2 pts Peter Kuest Top 20 @ 10/3

Peter Kuest showed some real promise at this level last year, recording four top-20 finishes, including a 14th here on debut. Though he didn’t quite do enough to earn his PGA Tour card, which meant it was back to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2024.

He made a slow start to the year on the KFT, missing five of six cuts but after gaining a couple of PGA Tour starts for his last two appearances, he’s found his form again; finishing 10th in the Texas Open and 9th in the Corales Puntacana Championship.

The big hitter possesses some very eye-catching stats for this test from his time on the PGA Tour last year, ranking 1st in proximity from 200yds+ and 3rd in birdie-or-better %.

As a strong bentgrass putter, as shown by his top-15 display on these greens last year, Kuest has everything in his favour to continue his recent run of form and record a second top 20 in a row at TPC Craig Ranch.

1.5 pts Hayden Springer Top 20 @ 6/1

Rookie, Hayden Springer has very close ties to the area, having attended high school – at the aptly-named Byron Nelson High School - and college within an hour’s drive from TPC Craig Ranch. As a very capable birdie-maker and decent from 200yds+, this bomber has the weapons in his arsenal to go well on debut this week.

He made his way to the PGA Tour via Q-School last year after enjoying a successful season on the Canada Tour, picking up two victories in seven starts. Like many players this season, he’s found starts hard to come by but performed with credit early on, making five of his first seven cuts and recording an excellent 3rd-place finish in the Puerto Rico Open, and whilst missing the cut on his last start in the Corales Puntacana Championship, he did so only narrowly, by one stroke.

He is among the bigger hitters on tour, ranking 15th in driving distance and a strong top 40 in putting, both of which help him in ranking 26th on tour in birdie-or-better % this season and should see him score well this week.

Springer’s story is one of the most inspiring you’ll find, gaining his PGA Tour card last year just a month after the heartbreaking passing of his daughter. He’ll have fans in their droves cheering him on at this home game this week and can reward them with a strong showing on his Byron Nelson debut.
