Wolves vs Sheffield United Prediction: No cutting edge for blunt Blades

Sunday’s sole Premier League game sees Gary O’Neil’s Wolverhampton Wanderers host Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United, with both sides in need of three points for vastly different reasons.

Wolves have flown up the table in recent months after a poor start to the campaign, and victory today could put them within touching distance of a surprise European position if results go their way.

Meanwhile, the writing looks to be on the wall for Sheffield United with the Blades bottom of the table and requiring at least two wins to be within a result away from escaping the drop zone, and it is difficult to see Wilder’s men coming away from Molineux with all three points.

Wolves vs Sheffield United Tips

  • Wolves to win to nil @ 7/5
  • Pedro Neto to score anytime @ 11/5

Match Odds

Wolves are the favourites to take all three points in Sunday’s encounter at 4/9, whereas the Blades can be backed at 6/1 to claim only their second away win of the season.

The draw provides odds of 18/5, while Wolves’ Hwang Hee-Chan is the favourite to grab the first goal of the game at 3/1.

Team News

The hosts will be without the in-form striker Matheus Cunha after he picked up a hamstring injury against Brentford last weekend.

However, the Brazilian is the only absentee for O’Neil, who is unlikely to tinker with the starting 11 that produced a monumental performance to take all three points from Tottenham last time out.

The Blades have somewhat of a crisis in central defence with the injured duo of Chris Basham and John Egan joined by Mason Holgate in the stands after the Everton loanee was shown a straight red card for a horror tackle on Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma last weekend.

Rhys Norrington-Davies, Daniel Jebbison and Max Lowe are all out for the season, while there will be late tests on the fitness of strike pairing Cameron Archer and Ben Brereton-Diaz.

Wolves to win to nil @ 7/5

Wolves have won six of their last 11 home games in all competitions, losing just twice in this run, and should be able to extend this streak on Sunday given that the Blades have picked up just five points away from Bramall Lane.

O’Neil’s men may have only kept two clean sheets at home all season in the league, however, these came in wins over Burnley and Everton - the two other sides in the bottom three of the league.

With the Blades registering the least amount of goals in the top flight, expect a comfortable victory for the Midlands outfit.

Wolves to win to nil vs Sheffield United at 7-5

Pedro Neto to score anytime @ 11/5

Wolves have been in free-scoring form at Molineux recently, finding the back of the net three times in three of their last four games here in all competitions.

With Cunha missing through injury, the likes of Hwang and Pedro Neto will have to take up the goalscoring mantle and the latter’s form would suggest that the 11/5 odds attributed to him could be worth a punt.

The Portuguese forward has registered two goals and two assists across his last five appearances and could be the more lucrative option to back to score at least once again on Sunday.
