2.5 units Gerwyn Price to win @ 7/1

4 units Gerwyn Price to win Quarter 4 @ 10/11

Gezzy was an easy pick and by far and away my most confident selections are on him this weekend. Largely due to the massively generous draw he has, but also due to his continuously impressive form.

Price had to skip the Flanders Darts Trophy due to a hand injury, something he’s suffered from several times previously but tends to fully recover from quickly. He returned to action last weekend at the Czech Darts Open and it was like his couple weeks break didnt happen - Gerwyn defeated Niko Springer 6-2 with a 101 average, before beating good friend Jonny Clayton 6-4 with a 99 average, he was then whitewashed by Gian Van Veen but still recorded an average over 104 himself.

The Iceman followed up that good showing in Prague this midweek as he almost pulled off an achievement very few have managed - winning back-to-back Players Championship events. It’s been a very productive couple of days in Hildesheim for Gezzy, winning the title on Tuesday before agonisingly losing out in a deciding leg to Joe Cullen in Wednesday’s final. Again, he can be very pleased with his level of performance, averaging 96+ in 12 of his 14 matches.

The fact he doesn’t play his opening match until Saturday afternoon is a bonus too, the couple days break will do him a favour, given the volume of matches he’s played this week already. With all due respect to his potential opponents, the Welshman must think he’s struck gold with this draw - Danny Lauby awaits in the opening round, before playing the winner of Cor Dekker vs Van Barneveld. Assuming he coasts through that into the quarters, the toughest tie he could face is against Chris Dobey, whom Price holds a dominant record over.

Everything’s coming along nicely for Price at the minute, he’s already won this event twice in 2020 and 2022, he’ll be confident of making it a hat-trick as he looks to be in a great place with his darts and away from the oche too. Really strong chance at 7/1 for the title and to win his quarter at 10/11.

1 unit James Wade e/w (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 25/1

1 unit James Wade to win Quarter 2 @ 11/2

Wade, despite all his achievements throughout his darts career which now spans over 20 years, has a habit of going “under the radar”. The same could be said for the year he’s had so far, many probably wouldn’t have him in their top 3 or 4 best players in 2025, but he really should be. The Machine has made two major finals this year at the UK Open and World Matchplay, losing out to Luke Littler in both. He’s won a Pro Tour title and reached the semi finals of four Euro Tour events.

Wadey had sat outside the top 10 for a couple years, but as a result of the consistently good runs of results, he now finds himself all the way back up to 5th in the world rankings. Most will know about the battles he’s faced with his mental health over the years, but he seems to be enjoying his darts lately and when that’s the case he has to be respected and classed as a major contender for all these televised titles.

Part of the reasoning for his rather generous odds will be because he faces World number one Luke Humphries in the opening round. As daunting a task as that may seem, James has actually won two of his last three meetings against Cool Hand so has some recent confidence to believe he can get some joy out of Humphries again. If he can pull off an upset and come through that, there’s no reason why he can’t go on another deep run as he’s proved he can do time and time again this year.

He won this back in 2018 and has made a further three semi-finals in six years at this event, so clearly has taken a liking for it. I’ve ignored him for too long this year and I can’t any longer, here’s hoping James can continue his pursuit of the top four in the rankings with another good showing in Amsterdam.

0.5 units Joe Cullen to win Quarter 1 @ 16/1

This pick really was a last minute decision, but at the time of writing this, Cullen has just wrapped up a second Pro Tour title of the year a couple hours ago. I have to say I was mightily impressed with everything about Joe today - the throw looked a lot more affirmative, which showed in the consistency of his performances and he didn’t get frustrated at all today as he looked fully in control.

The Rockstar has had a tough year it has to be said, so it’s hard to believe that today was actually his third Pro Tour final of the year and his second title. It shows he’s still putting it all together on the odd occasion and still has the game to beat anyone. He came through the qualifier for this a few weeks ago playing some solid stuff. The quarter doesn’t look too bad for him, he would likely face a QF against Rock or Bunting which would be tough, but to get to that stage would need to beat Damon Heta who can be hit or miss in the televised tournaments, before a match against Mike De Decker or Gabriel Clemens who have both struggled at times this year. 16/1 just seems far too big on the evidence of what we seen from Cullen today, absolutely worth investing a small stake in.

1 unit Michael Van Gerwen to win Quarter 2 @ 5/1

I’m willing to have another go on Van Gerwen in some form this weekend, despite not coming up trumps from us in Prague last weekend. He did produce an incredible performance against Mike De Decker, whitewashing the Belgian 6-0 with a 114 average which was a timely reminder that the Dutchman still has that sort of level up his sleeve. The inconsistencies have been the main problem for him for some time but as I touched on in my write-up last week, the MVG throwing action does seem to be improving again and will 100% benefit him in the long run.

He did lose out in the opening round on the Pro Tour on Tuesday against Callan Rydz, he decided to skip the following event on Wednesday which was an interesting decision. Perhaps turning his attention to this event earlier, as he’ll look to put on a show for his home crowd. He’s won this event five times previously, most recently in 2023. More importantly for us, he has made the semis in three of the last four editions of the event, so 5/1 looks a good bit of value if he can find that A-game of his this weekend.

1 unit Nathan Aspinall to win Quarter 3 @ 13/2

I didn’t want to get involved in this quarter in terms of a tournament winner, with Luke Littler being a deadly threat to that. But I was keen to have a go on somebody to win this quarter and I think that Aspinall looks like the best value to do so.

It was a near two-month break for The Asp after defeat in the opening round of the World Matchplay, but he’s looked solid enough since his return, averaging 95+ in six of his seven matches the past week so there’s no major signs of rustiness. He wouldn’t meet Littler until the quarters, before that Nathan has a very winnable opening match against out of form Dave Chisnall, then likely Ross Smith in the last 16. He was runner-up here in 2023 so I’m sure he’ll believe a deep run is within the realms of possibility at a tasty 13/2.
