Darts Betting Tips: An 11/8 boosted double for Day 2 at Winter Gardens

There are some interesting battles in store for Day 2 at the Betfred World Matchplay on Sunday. The iconic Winter Gardens in Blackpool will see the return of three-time champion Michael van Gerwen, while Chris Dobey, Gary Anderson and Jonny Clayton are also in action.

Over 16.5 legs in Chris Dobey vs Dirk van Duijvenbode @ 4/5

It’s been a pretty mixed bag of results and performances for both Dobey and Van Duijvenbode this year. Both would have preferred a better start I’m sure. Dobey has won a couple Pro Tour titles, which you expect from him nowadays, but again has failed to make any real inroads in the European Tour events.

Incredibly, you have to go all the way back to April 2023 for the last time Dirk lifted a title in the PDC. The best he’s achieved this year is one Pro Tour final and two quarter-finals on the European Tour, it labels the inconsistencies in Dirk’s game in recent years.

They meet at a venue where neither have a record they’ll want to boast about - Dobey has made only one quarter-final across six appearances at the Winter Gardens, Dirk has achieved the same amount in four appearances. 

There’s very little to separate the stats between the pair this year - Hollywood is averaging 97.63 over the last six months, compared to 96.03 for the Dutchman.

They’re a similar type profile of player and for that reason I think the scoring in this match could be electrifying at times but we could see a bucket load of missed doubles, both of them are averaging below 40% on the outer-ring over the last six months.

Dobey’s statistically got the slight edge, but so often lets himself down in these major tournaments, for that reason I think Dirk remains competitive in this one and over 16.5 legs looks highly likely.

Over 16.5 legs in James Wade vs Jermaine Wattimena @ 4/5

These two have a pretty rich head-to-head record in recent years - Wade leads 5-4 in the previous meetings but that’s somewhat misleading as the Dutchman has actually came out on top in the last four.

Another thing worth noting is that three of those four victories were in major tournaments. Something about these two seems to bring out the best in each-other as we tend to get good, competitive matches whenever they face.

Wade is the one who boasts all the form in Blackpool, though, and that could be a pretty big leveller for their recent encounters.

Wattimena made his first ever semi-final on the European Tour in Leverkusen last weekend and backed it up by making the final, where he fell short to Krzysztof Ratajski. I wouldn’t actually say Jermaine played anywhere near his best but done a good job of taking care of the low-quality performances he was faced with for the majority of the event.

What is telling to me is that every time these two have competed over a longer legs format like this one, they’ve all been tight. They played in the opening round here way back in 2018, that one went into overtime with The Machine winning 12-10.

They’ve met in the European Championship and Players Championship Finals in the last couple of years, Wattimena won those 10-8 and 10-9. It’s almost impossible to foresee a scenario where one of them run away with it, I’m fully expecting it to go down to the wire with Wade using his experience to edge out the victory. Over 16.5 legs is the bet that makes the most sense in this exciting fixture.
