'Snakebite' might seem like an obvious pick after lifting his first title of the year last weekend, but the draw looks manageable for him. He had anything but an easy ride last week on road to victory, having to get past the likes of Luke Littler, Michael Van Gerwen, Dave Chisnall and Stephen Bunting. Even his opening two matches against Niko Springer and Gian Van Veen were very tough draws for the early stages.

I feel like the one thing he’s really lacked all year is confidence (despite what he might say in his interviews), his self belief has never been in question but confidence in himself to get over the line in matches has definitely been lacking this year, after tasting silverware again he should have his mojo back a bit now and will feel like a weight’s been lifted off his shoulders.

He didn’t play his absolute best last week, apart from a 109 average in an emotional win over MVG, all his other matches he averaged between 93-97, showing decent consistency. That sort of level certainly could be enough to see him through the first few rounds as first up he faces Brendan Dolan, who’s struggled the last couple of  weeks, then would face Schindler who doesn’t have the luxury of playing in his home nation this week.

Wright defeated all of the other seeds in this section last week - MVG, Chizzy and Bunting. It’s a big ask to go back to back but Snakebite has stayed out at a back-able price and I’m happy to gamble on him keeping this return to form going.

0.75 units e/w Dimitri Van den Bergh @ 40/1

'Dimi' had a good World Matchplay and has continued producing a decent level of performance since, despite some results not going his way - he has averaged 99+ in six of his last 12 matches. Van den Bergh played some nice stuff at the World Series events in Australia/NZ but walked into some strong performances from Luke Littler unfortunately, or he could easily have made at least a final otherwise.

He doesn’t have the best record on the Euro Tour, having not won an event yet and hasn’t gone beyond the third round in his last 18 Euro appearances, so you may question why I’m backing The Dream Maker. However, I see him creeping back into the form that saw him make two Euro Tour finals in 2022, on top of having a favourable draw this week.

A win over Andrew Gilding would see him face arguably the weakest seed in the field in Ricardo Pietreczko, which would set up a third round tie against one of Raymond van Barneveld/Danny Noppert/Maik Kuivenhoven, none of whom are setting the world alight just now.

It looks Dimi’s best chance to go on a deep run on the Euro Tour in some time and he does have a tendency to crop up from nowhere, with not much consistent trends in his form. These look very generous odds for a major winner too, which makes it all the more appealing to jump on the Belgian here in front of what should be a boisterous home support for him.
