2 units Gerwyn Price to win @ 8/1

The absence of Luke Littler is a very significant one and many will be eyeing this tournament up as a golden opportunity to pick up some silverware with the teenager giving this one a miss. Gerwyn Price will be one of those thinking he’s potentially the man to beat now, given the significant form he’s in.

The Iceman sits fourth in the Premier League table, having notched up his second weekly win in Nottingham last week. He’s also put in some eye-catching displays elsewhere - recording averages of 112 and 101 in the opening Euro Tour event of the year in Belgium and averaging 105, 101 and 102 in successive matches in the last Pro Tour event he played.

The Welshman has to be feeling very good about his game right now, despite a quarter final exit against an inspired Rob Cross in Cardiff, who beat him on a big fish final leg finish.

He’s in a tough quarter of the draw with many capable names such as Michael van Gerwen, Gian Van Veen, Josh Rock and Danny Noppert to name a few, as well as in-form younger players like Niko Springer, Connor Scutt and Wessel Nijman. However, Price is playing the best of that crop just now and should fancy his chances in a Saturday tie against Ryan Searle you’d think.

This would be followed by a tie against Nijman or Noppert most likely, two good players in their own right but neither are playing their best stuff in recent weeks. Gezzy has eight European Tour titles in total but hasn’t won one since 2023, this looks like one of his best opportunities to end that mini drought.

0.75 units Rob Cross each-way (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 16/1

We haven’t quite got it right with Cross in recent times, he seems to have come up trumps when we’ve left him out, so we’re due a bit of good fortune on him. With two titles to his name already this year and the form looking consistently good again, Voltage looks like he could be ready to strike and make it a hat-trick of titles before we even reach April.

Bobby has averaged 97+ in 11 of his last 12 matches, producing a pretty relentless top end level, if he continues at that rate then there’s more titles on the way. He’s averaged below 90 in just one of his last 21 matches, so it’s likely going to require an impressive performance to get the better of Cross, something like the one Ross Smith put in against him at the Belgian Darts Open a couple weeks ago.

I actually really like the quarter of the draw Cross finds himself in, in terms of his chances of progressing through it. There’s plenty of decent names but with the exception of Peter Wright, none of them win too regularly and certainly nowhere near as much as Robert does. He faces the winner of Andrew Gilding vs Callan Rydz, neither of whom are playing their best stuff in recent weeks.

Victory there would lead to a tasty tie against one of Ryan Joyce, Joe Cullen or Dimitri Van den Bergh - again, none of them are playing amazingly the past few weeks. Cross looks the closest to his best just now in this section, he’s in the same half of the draw as Price but I really do think there’s every chance we could see a Price vs Cross semi-final in the bottom half which would be ideal for us.

As always, fairly generous odds for Voltage at 16/1, especially with no Littler in the field.

0.75 units Ross Smith each-way (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 25/1

I don’t back Ross Smith too often at all away from the Pro Tour action, as I often feel his odds are a bit on the skinny side. However 25s look a fair number this week for Smudger, who looks to be slowly creeping back into some form perhaps, after a disappointing few months.

Smith made the semi-finals of the Belgian Darts Open a couple weeks ago, eventually losing out in a last leg decider against home favourite Mike De Decker, to deny him a spot in the final. There was plenty ofpositives for him to take from that though, including a 112 average against Cross.

He’s had a couple of runs to the semis of Pro Tour events either side of this too, so looks to be finding some momentum again. Ross has averaged 94+ in 10 of his last 11 matches, so much like Cross only to a slightly lesser extent, he’s finding a consistent range between 94-100 in the averages, which will require a good performance to be beaten.

Smith sits in probably the most open section of the draw in my opinion, it was between him and Jonny Clayton as to who I backed from this section, but I sided with Smith as I feel he’s got the easier path to the quarter-finals of the pair. He does play a home player in Michael Unterbuchner first, but really should have far too much scoring power for the German to cope with. He’d then face James Wade, who rarely goes deep on the Euro Tour.

If he comes through that then I’d make him favourite again against one of Dave Chisnall, Barney or Ricky Evans - Evans is probably playing the best of the three just now, with Chizzy and Barney really struggling for form.

Personally I make Smudger close to odds on to reach the QFs, he can beat anyone when on form, so 25/1 looks a really appealing each way price as he looks to pick up his maiden Euro Tour title.
