Krzysztof Ratajski to hit a checkout over 110.5 vs Wesley Plaisier @ 1/3

Ratajski has impressed me in his opening two matches - he was brilliant against Alexis Toylo, coping with the lack of pace from the Asian spectacularly and playing the board only. Ratajski averaged just shy of 98, limiting the Filipino to only two legs. He wasn’t quite as good against Ryan Joyce but he still totally outscored him and didn’t give him a sniff the first couple of sets.

Plaisier caused one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far as he dispatched much fancied Gerwyn Price in straight sets. Big Wes took out a 130 checkout in the opening leg to hold throw when he looked in trouble and that really set the tone for the match, the Dutchman never looked back from there and was impressively cool throughout to get the job finished when many would have crumbled in the same position.

Only two points separate the two in the yearly averages and it’s quite hard to see this not going at least six sets long, so there should be multiple opportunities for big checkouts. Ratajski has looked particularly likely so far on the combination checkouts - The Polish Eagle reeled in the big fish against Toylo with a 170 checkout and took out an equally as impressive 135 checkout against Joyce. The Pole is priced at 1/3 to have a checkout over 110.5 and it looks oh so likely when there’s every chances 25+ legs are going to be played in what should be a great battle.

Over 5.5 total sets in Andreas Harrysson vs Ricardo Pietreczko @ 4/6

Perhaps this wouldn’t have been everyone’s predicted last 32 tie in this section, with the likes of Ross Smith and Dave Chisnall being knocked out by the pair of them but they’ve fully earned their spots in the post-Christmas action.

Harrysson experienced two very different scenarios in his first two matches - a 3/1 outsider in his opener, followed by being considered a firm favourite against Motomu Sakai at 4/7. The Swede dealt with both scenarios like he’d done it a million times before, he held it together nicely in a tense deciding set against Ross Smith and he had the crowd to contend with second round, who were firmly on the side of Sakai, a strong start to the match for Dirty Harry was crucial and he managed just that.

Pietreczko was put through the mill in his second round match against one of the fans’ favourites Dave Chisnall - the German did lead 2-0 but later found himself in a sticky situation, with the match level and the majority of the crowd backing Chizzy. He held it together the better of the two and managed to fall over the line 3-2. He was let off the hook by some shocking doubles from Dave, the scoring will likely have to improve for Pikachu if he’s to progress again.

I really can’t separate these two much, Pietreczko does boast the vaster experience on big stages but so far Andreas is taking to it like a duck to water so I don’t think that’s going to play too big a factor. Both have similar stats on the scoring and doubles thus far, I can’t see that changing so over 5.5 sets looks a brilliant bet at 4/6.
