2 units Luke Humphries @ 9/2

This was definitely the easiest of my picks for the tournament. Humphries more than played his part in what was a memorable Finals Night in the Premier League last Thursday - he saw off Jonny Clayton 10-9 in the semi-finals, winning the last three legs before losing out in heartbreaking fashion against Luke Littler in the final, this time being on the wrong side of a deciding leg. Now the dust has settled though, he should be proud of that performance, a 105.60 average over 19 legs is not to be sniffed at.

He hasn’t played since then, opting to skip the Pro Tour events in Milton Keynes at the start of the week but it’s hard to argue that Cool Hand isn’t the form player right now, certainly in terms of the level of play he’s consistently producing - he’s averaged 100+ in 15 of his last 17 matches. He made the final in all of the last four regular Premier League nights, as well as winning a Pro Tour event in style last month. He’s won 13 of his last 15 matches and there’s no doubting he’s playing the best he has all year.

He arguably got one of the trickier draws he could have faced out of the Nordic and Baltic representatives - he plays Jeffrey De Graaf, who just won a Pro Tour event at the start of this week, seeing off the likes of Josh Rock, Wessel Nijman, Luke Woodhouse and Clayton on route to that title.

No doubt he’ll come here in high spirits but I still fancy Humphries to do a professional job on him if he continues the form he’s been in. He may get a shot at revenge against Littler as they can potentially meet in the semi-finals, victory over the youngster on route to this title would be a fitting way to prepare himself for the upcoming World Cup of Darts.

1 unit Gerwyn Price @ 7/1

Price was also involved in the chaotic Finals Night last week, coming so close to completing one of the best comebacks of all-time against Littler in the semi-finals.

The Iceman’s fate looked sealed when he trailed the World Champ 9-4 in a first to 10, he then incredibly reeled off five legs on the spin to send it to a deciding leg. Unfortunately for him Littler was too strong in that decisive final leg. He can take the positives though from an event he’s often struggled in in the past.

It’s been a strange few months for Gezzy, health issues have prevented him from competing in as many events as he would have liked - he hasn’t played in anything outside of the Premier League since winning the European Darts Grand Prix back in mid-April. He’s also decided to give the World Cup a miss which was a bit of a surprise, as himself and Clayton are usually contenders to win the whole thing for Wales. But I’m seeing it as a positive that he’s not withdrawn from this and can put his full focus into it with not much in the calendar either side of it.

Darius Labanauskas is the opening round opponent for Price, one I’d expect him to come through, before a potential tie against fellow countryman Jonny Clayton, someone he’s generally had the better of in the past. It’s an open looking top half of the draw, with no amazing form sticking out from any of the seeds.

Price does have a decent record in these World Series events, he won this in 2024 and it’s the type of event the ultra competitive Gezzy will get himself fired up for,  when others perhaps already have one eye on other upcoming events. At 7/1, he looks the pick of the bunch in the top half.
