Gerwyn Price highest checkout over 130.5 @ 5/6

It feels like Price is going somewhat under the radar this week, perhaps because he’s not produced a five-star performance yet, however, he’s still been solid. I wasn’t blown away with him against Schindler but he still managed a 97 average after a strong finish to the match.

Today he’s up against Ricky Evans again, having suffered a surprise defeat to the Kettering man in his opening match of the group stages. Rapid Ricky has managed to back that up since, making it through the group stages and coming from 8-5 and 9-7 down to defeat Luke Woodhouse in the Last 16.

In his post-match interview after that one, he did complain about a spasm in his finger he was suffering from mid-match, whether this has been resolved heading into tonight or is still an ongoing issue remains to be seen.

Price’s odds are obviously very short in the market, I’m not sure I want to be putting faith in him to brush aside a player he just lost 5-4 to a matter of days ago. So instead I’m going to venture into the highest checkout market, where Price is 5/6 to hit a checkout over 130.5.

A big outshot seems to have become a trademark for The Iceman in these longer format matches - he hit a 170 checkout against Schindler last round, he had a 156 against Littler and a 138 against Searle at the World Grand Prix and had another big fish against Rock and a 146 against Dobey in the latter stages of the World Matchplay.

This is a much extended format of first to 16 legs, he’s looked likely on the big outs this week so I fancy him to manage another 131+ tonight.

Luke Humphries most 180s vs Michael Smith @ 1/3

Wednesday night was a very strange one for Humphries and all the gossip surrounding him - it was rumoured in the lead-up to his match against Van der Velde that the World number one was suffering from a neck/back injury and therefore his chances of progressing to the last 16 were very much up for debate.

However, he definitely made somewhat of a quick recovery from that as he smashed up poor Jurjen 10-3, averaging 108.55 in the process. He raced into a 5-0 lead with a 117 average and never looked back after that.

He did say post-match that he was close to withdrawing from the event earlier that day as he could barely throw a dart, only the work with the physio managed to turn it around for him. A day’s rest yesterday has likely done him the world of good and I assume he’s probably worked with the physio again since to make sure he’s in prime condition against Bully Boy, so his fitness isn’t a concern for me.

Smith has been put through the wringer already, how he’s made it to this stage, well, I’m not even sure he knows himself. A ridiculous climax to his last 16 match against Chris Dobey eventually saw him fall over the line 10-9. Again though, it was another sub-90 average for Michael and that 100% will not cut it against Luke.

Bully Boy hasn’t really been hitting 180s like he did in his prime - he’s managed nine in 42 legs so far, compared to 14 in 34 legs for Humphries. Over the past year, Humphries is averaging 0.32 180s per leg compared to 0.23 180s per leg for Smith. You’d assume over this lengthy format that these stats will stand tall in the end.
