Darts Betting Tips - Monday, December 30

  • Chris Dobey -1.5 sets handicap @ 8/13
  • Ricardo Pietreczko highest checkout over 120.5 @ 5/6
  • Boosted from 39/20 to 9/4
  • Stake - 2 Units

Chris Dobey -1.5 sets handicap @ 8/13

Dobey is warming up in this event nicely, the Geordie beat Alexander Merkx 3-1 to open up his tournament with a 96 average, despite only hitting 25% of his doubles in that one. That was followed up by an impressive 4-2 win over Josh Rock in an entertaining match, this time averaging 97 with nine 180s and 45% doubles, so was an all-round solid performance. The pace of that match suited him to a tee and he’ll enjoy a very similar tempo when he plays Kevin Doets.

Doets had a pretty remarkable turnaround in his match against Ratajski today - the Dutchman found himself 2-0 down in sets without winning a single leg, at that point he was averaging 81 with just three attempts at double. He then fought back to 2-2, winning six of the next seven legs.

He then had to complete another comeback of sorts when he was 3-2 down in sets and 2-0 down in the 6th set, he survived multiple match darts and took out some clutch finishes himself to hang on in the match and eventually got over the line.

Doubles were the difference, Doets hitting 48% compared to 35% from Ratajski. He’ll need similar finishing to stick with Dobey you’d imagine, but 29% and 31% in his earlier matches against Van Leuven and Michael Smith as well as being 36.27% for the year suggest he won’t repeat today’s performance on the outer ring.

The pair have met three times previously, with Dobey absolutely dominating them - Hollywood coming out on top in all three with victories of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1. The first two were in 2022 then the most recent one was on the Euro Tour in September, so a decent guide given how recent it was.

Both are big scorers but the difference is consistency - we’ve already seen how much Doets blows hot and cold within a match, whereas Dobey is far more likely to keep at a good level, given his B-game is far stronger. That’ll be the telling difference in this one I believe - both are likely to have their moments but I fancy Dobey to win by a couple sets at 8/13.

Ricardo Pietreczko highest checkout over 120.5 @ 5/6

There isn’t too much separating these two in the match odds and I’m in agreement with that - Pietreczko has actually played the slightly better stuff of the two so far but Aspinall obviously has the accolades and vaster experience over his German opponent.

Asp will need to pick up his level though - an 88 average against Gates in a 3-1 victory opening round, followed by a slightly better 4-0 win over Andrew Gilding with a 92 average. His finishing has actually been impressive - 46% against Gates and 60% against Gilding, so it’s actually his scoring that’s needing upped a considerable amount.

Pietreczko has had a pretty impressive run of his results already to reach the last 16 stage - he’s recorded wins over Zong, Van Veen and Scott Williams and has only dropped a total of two sets in the process. He was priced up as the underdog in his previous two matches but he’s made a mockery of they odds. He’s gradually improved each match - averages of 88, 92 and 97.

One thing he’s maintained every match is reliable doubles, hitting 56%, 56% and 52% in his three matches. If he can keep up that rate then he’ll be tough to beat for almost anyone in this tournament. He’s a big stage player and seems to thrive in this environment, he’ll also get plenty backing from a large German contingency in the crowd which he seems to enjoy, based on his Euro Tour achievements in the past.

I’m going to go for a big Pietreczko checkout - Pikachu’s highest checkout in each of his matches this tournament so far have been 158, 122 and 129. So he’s managed over 120.5 in each match so far and the most sets he’s played in a match so far is five. This match likely has six or more sets in it meaning more opportunities for big checkouts. Over 120.5 checkout from the German looks the best value at 5/6.
