World Darts Championship Monday Betting Tips

  • Luke Woodhouse most 180’s @ 4/7
  • Over 7.5 180’s in Soutar vs Gotthardt @ EVS

1 unit boosted double @ 11/5 5/2

Luke Woodhouse most 180’s @ 4/7

Intriguing match this one, with two very different styles of throw. Woody likes to play at a more brisk pace and has a rhythmic throw, whereas the enigmatic Ilagan has a pretty unique throwing action and manners around the oche, which has always made him an entertaining watch. It’s an action that may knock Woodhouse out of his rhythm though and may make it tougher for him to play at his fluent best.

Ilagan has been one of the main faces of the Asian Tour for some time and always been one of the big characters when playing at the Worlds, but despite some promising performances here he’s generally struggled to turn them into wins - winning just one match in eight appearances here. However he does have a decent level in him which he showed in his matches against Luke Littler and Keane Barry at the Grand Slam last month, averaging 92 and 97 in defeat in those matches. He could pose a threat but very much depends on how much consistency he can show through the match.

Woody is still looking to elevate his game to the next level and really start to push for spot in the top 32 which opens up a lot more doors and opportunities. A run to the semi finals of the European Championship in October was another step in the right direction for Luke, which included wins over Ross Smith, Ryan Searle and Dirk Van Duijvenbode. He hasn’t pulled up any trees at the World Champs before, however he did make the last 32 on debut, which included a win over Michael Smith but he’s yet to better that run.

Woody should win, given his average over the past twelve months is eight points higher than that of Ilagan and I think his scoring will just be too strong overall, albeit the 3/10 price is a bit on the skinny side so instead I’ll focus on the 180s. 4/7 for Woodhouse to hit more looks a generous enough price - he’s hit 0.27 180s per leg over the year compared to 0.17 for Ilagan, Woody is always reliable to hit a few, whereas Ilagan is more hit or miss with them. I’m not always a lover of 180 betting but over this longer set format I feel they are easier to bet on than they are in the bog standard first to six leg matches. 4/7 most 180s on Woody looks better value than 3/10 for him to win the match.

Over 7.5 180’s in Soutar vs Gotthardt @ EVS

Not quite sure what to expect from this one, Soutar definitely has significantly more experience on the big stage and has the more impressive stats over the past twelve months but he’s stuck in a bit of a rut lately. Since October, Soots has won just two of his last twelve matches, also failing to qualify for the likes of the European Championship and Grand Slam. So it’s very much up in the air as to how Alan is feeling about his game coming into this and what his preparation has been.

A big positive for Soutar is his record at Ally Pally - he didn’t manage to qualify last year but in his only other two appearances, the Scot has gone on brilliant runs to the last 16 on both occasions - some of his wins came against the likes of Daryl Gurney, Danny Noppert, Callan Rydz and Jose De Sousa. So something definitely seems to click for Soutar on that prestigious stage and he seems to be pretty settled in front of a big crowd in comparison to some others. However, it has to be said on the other two occasions he qualified he wasn’t in as poor form as this.

I caught the closing stages of the German Super League in which Gotthardt managed to close out victory in pretty dramatic style to book his spot at Ally Pally. It’s a league that consists of some of the best German players that haven’t already secured qualification, playing group stages then moving into a knockout stage. Gotthardt incredibly won all of his final four matches in deciding legs, showing some serious bottle. Interestingly, his best two averages of the week came in the semi final and final, which is definitely worth noting ahead of the biggest match of his career to date, perhaps he raises his game when the stakes are high.

This is obviously a different kettle of fish for Kai who has minimal big stage experience, a couple of appearances on the Euro Tour is the only comparison he has really. Soutar has to be favourite given he’s averaging almost five points more than Gotthardt for the year and Kai is a rookie on the big stage, but I’m not sure it’s going to be straightforward with his lack of form so I’m staying well away from the match winner market.

Again, I’m going to concentrate on 180s - 4+ sets looks a likely outcome in this one meaning plenty of legs. Neither of them are shy of hitting maximums - 0.18 per leg for Gotthardt and 0.30 per leg for Soutar are the yearly figures, meaning there’s a 48% chance of them hitting one between them in a leg. 16+ legs is extremely likely if we get four sets meaning eight 180s looks very doable. It’s a tricky one to call overall but even money for over 7.5 180s looks a little gem of a price.
