0.75 units Jonny Clayton each-way (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 22/1

Jonny has enjoyed a really promising start to 2025, impressing in the two biggest ranking events so far. The Ferret reached the final of the Winmau World Masters, before agonisingly losing in a deciding set to Luke Humphries miss out in a 6-5 defeat, despite almost completing a miraculous comeback in that match. He then made the semi finals of the UK Open last weekend, after some impressive wins over Gary Anderson, Michael Smith and Martin Schindler.

The continuous rise in form has seen the Welshman climb up to 5th in the world rankings, flirting with the top 4 now just behind Rob Cross. He’s been brilliant at consistently posting averages around the mid to high 90’s - he’s averaged between 95-100 in ten of his last fifteen matches. If he can keep that level up through a tournament then it’s going to take a big performance to beat him, which has been the case so far where it took the world’s top two in Littler and Humphries to stop him. Jonny averaged 93.69 over the course of 2024, compared to the 95.98 he’s averaging in 2025 so far, further emphasising his upturn in form.

The Ferret has a very strong record in this event - going SF, QF, QF in his three previous appearances in this. He’ll look to go a couple better this time round and he won a European Tour title in 2023, on top of making a final in 2024 so knows how to get the job done in these. 25/1 feels far too big for one of the form players this year.

0.5 units Gian Van Veen each-way (1/2 - 2 Places)@ 33/1

Van Veen was a no brainer to be on for this weekend. The current World Youth champion has came absolutely flying out the blocks in 2025, with numerous sterling performances and relentlessly posting big numbers. GVV sits 4th in the world for averages in 2025, averaging 98.78 over the course of the year so far. He’s averaged 101+ in five of his last ten matches, averaging 97+ in nine of those, so is showing some serious form.

It took a peak Luke Littler performance to stop Van Veen in his tracks at the UK Open last weekend, it’s debatable as to whether anybody else would’ve been able to stop the young Dutchman. Gian quietly went about his business very efficiently on the outer boards at Minehead with comforable wins over Nick Kenny and Stephen Burton, before putting on a clinic against Damon Heta - winning a thrilling match 10-9 with a 110 average, nine 180s and 10/13 on doubles.

The Giant made his first ever European Tour final at the Hungarian Darts Trophy in September, going agonisingly close to winning that event against Van Gerwen in the final. Hopefully he’s took something from that experience as on current form he looks like he could go all the way at a tasty 33/1, despite being in a tricky section of the draw alongside Price, Heta and Michael Smith.

0.5 units Peter Wright each-way (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 50/1

Been a long time since I’ve backed Snakebite, but there’s just been glimpses of some form from Snakebite recently. He’s struggled for consistency but let’s not forget that he started to play himself into being one of the more fancied players at the World Championship in December, after brilliant victories over Jermaine Wattimena then Luke Humphries. He came up short against Bunting in the QFs but it was a promising couple weeks at the Ally Pally for Wright.

This year so far it’s been a mixed bag of results and performances - he’s averaged 99+ in six of his last twelve matches so there’s definitely plenty to be optimistic about. He was desperately unlucky against Luke Littler at the UK Open last weekend were he almost caused a big upset in the FA Cup of Darts, narrowly losing out 10-9 to eventual champion Luke Littler in the fourth round, despite averaging 102 himself.

Despite all his struggles in recent years, Wright has still always found his way into the winners’ circle at some stage - particularly on the Euro Tour, where he’s managed to pick up a title in 2022, 2023 and 2024. He can be a bit hit or miss but if he looks good a couple games into a tournament then you can usually consider him a contender for the title. There’s plenty decent players in Wright’s quarter but all are beatable and none have been as successful as Peter has been on the Euro Tour the past few years. 50/1 for Snakey looks worth a go this week.

0.5 units Ricardo Pietreczko each-way (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 150/1

My outside shot this week comes with Pietreczko. The little German has had an average start to the year you’d have to say, winning five of his eleven matches this year. He had a good run to the last 16 of the World Championship in December, before a dismal display against Nathan Aspinall saw him crash out. He recently made the last 16 of a Pro Tour event and has averaged 91+ in six of his last seven matches so the form is satisfactory coming into this.

Pikachu is a player who can find a way to grind it out and win ugly, the level he’s producing this year is very similar to the performances he put in at his only previous appearance in the Belgian Darts Open last year, which seen him go all the way to the semi finals. He beat the likes of Woodhouse, Joyce and Clayton on that run, with averages of 94, 92 and 83 before being stopped by Littler in the semis.

The European Tour has generally been Pikachu’s happy place in terms of levels of success - he won his first and to date only PDC ranking title at the German Darts Championship in 2023. He went close to adding to that tally when he narrowly lost out 8-6 in the final of the Flanders Darts Trophy to Dave Chisnall. For whatever reason, even with very little form coming in, Ricardo can turn it on in these events and he sits in a very kind section of the draw where many of the better known names such as Aspinall, Chisnall and Edhouse are all dealing with their own issues on the oche and searching for some better form. 150/1 for a player who’s made two finals in their last fourteen Euro Tour events seems far too big.
