After some surprise fireworks on Stage 9 as Tim Merlier claimed a chaotic sprint for his second victory at this year's Tour de France, the road turns upwards on Stage 10 as the peloton heads into the Massif Central for a 165.3km ride from Ennezat to Le Mont-Dore Puy de Sancy.

The eagle-eyed may have twigged that there isn't a rest day on the second Monday of the Tour. Notice the date? That's because it falls on Bastille Day, the biggest French national holiday, so expect home riders to attack from everywhere on what looks like a classic stage for the breakaway.

Below you can find the Tour de France Stage 10 predictions.

Tadej Pogacar still leads the Tour by 54 seconds from Remco Evenepoel but even with a rest day on Tuesday and a sprint likely on Wednesday, those two may - along with their rivals - look to cruise in with the second week's main action likely to come in the Pyrenees.

Warren Barguil was the last Frenchman to win on July 14 in 2017. Riding this year for Team Picnic PostN, his type of rider could thrive on a day featuring one category three and seven category two climbs, including the finish on the slopes up to the resort of Le Mont-Dore.

The route

Bastille Day at the Tour is always entertaining and Christian Prudhomme and the organising committee have created a monster with eight categorised climbs and very little flat, with this the first ‘Mountain Day’ of the 112th edition of La Grande Boucle.

Of that octet, seven are category two efforts, totalling 4,400m of elevation.

The first mountain stage of the Tour promises fireworks and while there may not be a massive shake-up among the favourites, the extra day of racing without a break only adds to the potential of one or more riders towards the top of the general classification losing time.

Tour de France Stage 10 Odds

Lenny Martinez to win @ 16/1

Friday was miserable for Bahrain Victorious with leaders Santiago Buitrago and Jack Haig both caught up in a horror crash.

Haig had to abandon and Buitrago soldiered on but finished 13 minutes behind the Stage 7 winner, Pogacar.

Those two might have had top-10 aspirations but stage wins always looked like the team's best chance in 2025 and Lenny Martinez might just be about to burst into life.

A stage winner at this year's Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie and Criterium du Dauphine, he has been quiet so far, admitting his 22-year-old legs are feeling some fatigue after a breakthrough season.

A couple of crashes haven't helped but his 52 kilogram frame means he always had the potential to struggle in a fast and hard first week.

However, with the King of the Mountains prize a real possibility, his race might be about to start now as the peloton moves south towards the Pyrenees.

Martinez's age and lack of power mean he still can't ride consistently for three weeks, but Stage 10 is his type of terrain and on Bastille Day, this youngster may just be the boy to beat.

Stage 10 - Outright Lenny Martinez

Ben Healy to win @ 8/1

Ben Healy has already won at this year's Tour, soloing to glory on Stage 6 into Vire Normandie.

The Irishman has enjoyed a brilliant year with a series of top fives in the Classics and was a deserved victor on a day that, while not as lumpy as Monday's route, had plenty of ups and downs that prevented the peloton from gaining much rhythm.

Healy was another of those caught in the crash at the back of the group on Friday but the EF Education–EasyPost rider looked relatively unscathed.

Crucially, the 24-year-old lost time, falling out of the top 10 and further heightening the possibility that he will be allowed to get away in the break.
