The grand old title will be contested at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr’s grudge match with Conor Benn. Riley comes into this fight as the 4/7 favourite, while Clarke is out at 6/4 to take the win. A draw can be backed at 16/1 while the fight is 4/9 to go the distance.

It has been a troubled road to this scrap for both men. Riley saw a proposed fight with Isaac Chamberlain go by the wayside when his opponent was injured in training. Meanwhile, Clarke lost his latest outing by split decision to Leonardo Mosquea.

But still, these two cruiser bruisers have found their way to each other and a fight that has been talked about for years is finally upon us. Two amateur standouts meet in the squared circle to fight over one of the great traditional titles in a grand setting. Bring it on.

Riley has endured a frustrating time of late. A breakout win over Mikael Lawal for the English title last March looked set to bring greater challenges. But it would be December before ‘The Rilest’ fought again, logging a two-round destruction of heavyweight journeyman Dan Garber.

The Chamberlain date came and went without the fight taking place, leaving the social media sensation waiting for another outing. Finally, the 27-year-old has landed the sort of fight people have craved from him.

Clarke had been on the traditional route, an Olympian moving through the levels in the pro game. With the British title secured, ‘C4’ looked to conquer the continent. Mosquea had other ideas, scoring the upset and halting the momentum.

Clarke now has the perfect stage to recapture that momentum. To prove that the explosive boxer who stopped the likes of Tommy McCarthy and Ellis Zorro still resides within him. If Clarke is still that fighter, we could be in for quite a night.

This feels like the best-matched fight on this mammoth card. Other matches bring youth vs experience, fighters who have stopped the other in the past or size mismatches, this one sees two fighters who have had around the same number of bouts and who have both excelled as amateurs. 

At this stage in their respective careers, this is a crucial fight. The loser could see their potential capped at British level. Meanwhile, the victor will move on, most likely to that European belt and beyond. This is a proper fight with a proper prize. It just might steal the show in London.

Riley is the favourite, but I wonder if some recency bias has crept in. He is coming off a career-best win over Lawal and blowing through a bigger man in Garber. Meanwhile, Clarke was knocked down and outpointed in his last action. 

I think that has led to Clarke being underestimated and I won’t make the same mistake. I think the Olympian outboxes Riley here. He’ll be made to work down the stretch, make no mistake. But I reckon Clarke holds on to win on points at 100/30.
