Tyson Fury Returns: Gypsy King to face Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11

Former two-time world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has confirmed his ring return. 'The Gypsy King' will face Russian contender Arslanbek Makhmudov on Saturday, April 11. The fight will be Fury's first since December 2024, with the towering Mancunian retiring from the ring in the wake of his rematch defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.
Here is everything we know about Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Fury retirements are like off-brand plasters. They’re dubious from the get-go and they never stick. Therefore, the news that the only British fighter to hold the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles will box again is no surprise.
We now have the who, when and where to watch for this colossally predictable comeback. Fury will face monstrous Russian contender Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11. Netflix will continue to flex their boxing muscles by broadcasting a refreshingly non-Jake Paul event.
Makhmudov is coming off a points win over Doncaster trier David Allen. There were big hopes that ‘The White Rhino’ might upset the twice-beaten big man. But Allen ate some hellacious shots, brave and unbowed but well beaten, as Makhmudov scored his first significant win since back-to-back losses.
Those reverses came at the hands of top contender Agit Kabayel and Italian upset king Guido Vianello. A soft-touch, first-round KO of unbeaten, unheard-of Ricardo Brown followed. The Allen performance was more like it though, the slugger showing the control that eluded him in his losses.
This is no walkover for Fury, who could have probably filled a stadium against almost anyone (with the possible exception of expanding his pointless Derek Chisora trilogy any further). No venue has been revealed yet, but Turki Alalshikh is handling the event under The Ring banner.
‘The Gypsy King’ is looking to put a marker down ahead of a possible crack at WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley later this year.
Wardley saw the WBO interim belt he won against Joseph Parker upgraded when Usyk opted not to fight him. Fury says a third fight with the Ukrainian is still his ultimate aim, but most fans would much prefer the Wardley route. It is a possibility that Fury has said he too would relish.
But Makhmudov is not the sort of man you can look past, physically or metaphorically. A real fight then, for Fury’s latest comeback. One wonders if he will retire in the aftermath, even if he does so purely out of force-of-habit.
