Tyler Denny steps in the ring with a fighter that made a huge impression on his UK debut in Elvis Ahorgah. The bout takes place on the Ben Whittaker vs Liam Cameron undercard at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham this Saturday, April 20. Sky Sports will be screening the action live.

Here are my Denny vs Ahorgah predictions ahead of this fascinating scrap.

Tyler Denny vs Elvis Ahorgah Odds

Denny is a 1/16 favourite coming in. ‘The Soldier’ Ahorgah is 7/1 to pull off his first UK win while the draw is 20/1.

Tyler Denny vs Elvis Ahorgah Fight Preview

Denny had been on the run of his life going into his last fight. Unbeaten in five years, the southpaw had racked up some superb wins. River-Wilson Bent, Bradley Rea, Brad Pauls, Matteo Signani and Felix Cash were among a high-quality list of victims.

That hot streak also landed Denny the European middleweight title. But the salad days would come to an end when rising star Hamzah Sheeraz knocked him out in two rounds of a European and Commonwealth title unification fight.

While Sheeraz went on to fight for the WBC middleweight championship, Denny was left picking up the pieces and wondering where it all went wrong. Defeat was not an unfamiliar feeling for the West Midlands campaigner, but a series of career highs separated Denny from his 2019 loss to Linus Udofia.

Now Denny is back in the saddle against an opponent who turned heads on his UK debut back in February. Ahorgah’s fight with British and Commonwealth super middleweight king Callum Simpson was a late addition to the Adam Azim vs Sergey Lipinets card in London. ‘The Soldier’ announced himself with an incredible press conference performance two days before the fight.

Ahorgah, decked out in full camo befitting his moniker, declared himself “the Terminator”, “the Predator”, “the black Scharwzenegger” and “the Blade”. This action movie-inspired invective captured the imagination and baffled Simpson, who feigned fear even as his amusement broke through the charade.

It was one hell of a public unveiling for Ahorgah, who was coming in at 13-2 and having fought just once outside his native Ghana, an outing in Tanzania. But against the world-ranked Simpson many thought the only memory Ahorgah would leave would be his extravagant pre-fight pronouncements.

Tyler Denny vs Elvis Ahorgah - Method Of Victory Denny on Points

Odds correct at time of publishing.

However, considering the short turn-around time and relative dearth of top flight experience, Ahorgah fought with his heart and soul. Simpson was given plenty to think about, even though he was always in control. Ahorgah’s 80s movie favourites would have appreciated his grit under fire. Simpson emerged with the fifth-round stoppage, but Ahorgah walked out with respect and plenty of new fans.

Now Ahorgah is back against another leading light of British boxing. He has had more notice this time and comes in with the experience of having boxed over here before. The big arena setting is no longer uncharted territory for ‘The Soldier’.

Denny does not walk into uncharted territory, but fighting after a loss is not a feeling he has had for a while. While he was flying high as European champion, defeat may have been a feeling he convinced himself he would never feel again. But now the 33-year-old must put the disappointment behind him. If he doesn’t, a man with predatory instincts is ready to terminate. Hasta la vista, baby.

Tyler Denny vs Elvis Ahorgah Prediction

I think Ahorgah goes further here than he did against Simpson. This fight is under very different circumstances and I think the prep time, experience and Simpson being a level above Denny could play a part.

I think Denny will be made to work in this one. That work, however, will not be beyond him. Getting blitzed by a potentially world class talent in Sheeraz does not invalidate the brilliant wins of recent years.

I’m picking Denny to take this one on points in a closer fight than many expect. The Denny decision is 4/6.
