Terri Harper vs Natalie Zimmerman Fight Preview
The word legend gets thrown around in sport these days. Harper rarely gets brought up in that conversation. When this era of women’s boxing is remembered, the likes of Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields, Natasha Jonas and Amanda Serrano will likely be anointed first.
But Harper absolutely belongs in that discussion. Not as dominant as Taylor, as box office as Shields, as charming as Jonas or as all-encompassing as Serrano perhaps. But her tenacity is unmatched and her collection of titles speaks for itself.
What else do you call someone who has won the WBC super featherweight and WBA super welterweight world titles and now holds the WBO lightweight gong? A fighter who has come back from adversity time and again to reign supreme?
Harper has been written off before. A draw against Jonas while defending her WBC belt behind closed doors back in 2020 felt fortunate. A four-round hammering that introduced Alycia Baumgardner to the world at large was less fortunate.
But Harper did what would soon become her forte; dusted herself off and carried on. Up to super welterweight went ‘Belter’, turning over Scotland’s Hannah Rankin for her WBA belt. A troubled bout with the legendary Cecilia Braekhus was cancelled on fight day due to the Norwegian star having the flu. They eventually fought later in the year, ending in a draw.
It speaks to the sort of fighter that Harper is that she took on Sandy Ryan next, the highly-rated WBO champion up at welterweight. Another fourth-round knockout defeat was a short sharp shock that left most observers convinced they’d seen the last of Harper at title level.
When Harper was matched with rising star Rhiannon Dixon, the WBO lightweight champion, the implication was clear. The younger ruler who was making her first defence, while making headlines for her unique transition from pharmacist to boxing champion, seemed primed to take the scalp of a big name who might have been on the slide.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Nobody told Harper that she was there to be the fall girl. She set about her task and her opponent with gusto, emerging with a well-deserved unanimous decision. The win made her the first British woman to become a three-weight world champion.
Zimmerman now steps in to ruin the fairytale. An unbeaten fighter is hard to quantify. You can only assess the ceiling of their opposition. The German has beaten four debutants, eight women with losing records and one with a 1-1 ledger.
It is not a record that typically lands you a world title shot, but there is an argument that the best is yet to come. While Zimmerman is 42 years of age, she has only boxed professionally for five years. There are not a lot of ring miles on the clock. Now Zimmerman gets the chance to show she belongs against an elite fighter.
Make no mistake, that is exactly what she’s dealing with here. Harper cannot be denied any longer. British record-setting world champion at three weights. A tenacious battler who has fought the best and comes back stronger no matter the result. Simply put, Terri Harper is a boxing legend.

Terri Harper vs Natalie Zimmerman Prediction
When Harper has come unstuck, it has been against elite level competitors. Zimmerman is not Harper’s two conquerors, Baumgardner and Ryan. She is not Jonas or Braekhus, two icons of the sport who Harper fought to draws.
There is a slender chance Zimmerman has been a ferocious talent bubbling under, waiting to get past the debutants and journeywomen and take on a real challenge. While I don’t doubt her hunger, I do doubt her capacity.
I think Harper is better in every area. Zimmerman only has three knockouts against 13 low-level foes. Harper has six from her 15 wins to go with far more championship experience. The Dixon win showed Harper is not shop-worn in any way. The fire still burns. I think ‘Belter’ will ignite on the way to a win at 1/12.
