The vacant WBO super middleweight title will be on the line this Friday, November 15 as Shadasia Green faces Melinda Watpool. This world championship attraction takes place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event will be headlined by Mike Tyson’s controversial comeback at the age of 58. The ex-heavyweight champion takes on YouTube irritant Jake Paul, with Netflix broadcasting the show live.

Here are my Green vs Watpool predictions ahead of this intriguing clash.

Green vs Watpool Betting Odds

  • Green by KO @ 9/4
  • Fight to go the distance - No @ 15/8

11 months ago, Green suffered the first defeat of her career in similar circumstances to this. ‘The Sweet Terminator’ was once again contesting a vacant 168lb world title, namely the WBC version. But on that occasion, Franchon Crews Dezurn had too much for her, taking the unanimous decision win.

Green has kept herself in the hunt, climbing off the deck to beat Natasha Spence on points two months ago. Now she gets a second crack at the world belt, against an opponent who is arguably more beatable than the accomplished Crews Dezurn.

That is not to denigrate Watpool, who has looked good in accruing a 7-0 record. But rather to emphasise the quality of Crews Dezurn, who was a former undisputed super middleweight champion going into that fight. No disrespect intended, but the mountain looks a little less daunting this time for Green.

Interestingly, Watpool’s most recent opponent is also Natasha Spence. ‘The Whip’ has actually outpointed her twice. Of Spence’s four losses, three of them arrived against the two women fighting this Friday night.

As well as former title challenger Spence, Watpool has also beaten Adriana Dos Santos Araujo. You may recognise the name from an unsuccessful 2020 WBC super lightweight championship challenge against Chantelle Cameron. Watpool may have only had seven fights, but they have come at a good level.

Green is the best opponent she has faced, however. Apart from the Crews Dezurn reverse, the 35-year-old has impressed. Green has knocked out former world champion Elin Cederroos and ex-challenger Ogleidis Suarez. Her power might be her most impressive asset, with 11 stoppages in 14 fights.

Concussive power is a rare trait in women’s boxing, with the shorter rounds and fights not lending themselves to knockouts. To amass so many is a real indication of how hard Green hits. On a Mike Tyson undercard it feels appropriate to see a true power-puncher get a chance at a world title.

Shadasia Green vs Melinda Watpool Prediction

I’m picking ‘The Sweet Terminator’ to impress here. I think her power will tell over the course of this championship bout. I’m edging towards Green by knockout at odds of 9/4.
