Rolando Romero vs Manuel Jaimes Predictions: Rolly back on a roll?

Rolando Romero will square off with Manuel Jaimes this Saturday, September 14. The super lightweight battle takes place on the Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga undercard at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. DAZN PPV will broadcast the event live.
Here are my Romero vs Jaimes predictions ahead of this 140lb scrap.
Romero vs Jaimes Tips
- Romero to win @ 2/5
Rolly Romero needs this. The 28-year-old has lost two of his last three fights. There is also an argument to be made that he didn’t deserve to claim victory in the other.
Romero’s stoppage win over Ismael Barroso was deemed premature by almost everyone who has watched it. Barroso was ahead on the scorecards at the time the fight was waved off, leaving many questioning whether Rolly would have won had it continued.
Romero was awarded that fight and the WBA super lightweight title that went with it. But in the eyes of a lot of fans and pundits, his impressive 2021 TKO of Anthony Yigit was his last decisive win. Now he comes to Vegas in hopes of reviving faith in his abilities.
Jaimes is the man looking to capitalise on his famous foe’s uncertainty. Going off his 16-1-1 record, he is not particularly well-placed to do so. The 24-year-old has never fought above eight-round level.
Jaimes seems to have been handed this lottery ticket based on a win over Jonathan Romero. Beating a former world champion is no mean feat, but the Colombian held his IBF title a decade ago and has lost four on the bounce recently. A decent win for a rising prospect, but not the sort of thing that will help you against Rolly Romero.
A loss to Pedro Rodriguez and a draw with Alejandro Rodriguez put a firm ceiling on expectations surrounding Jaimes. He can punch, having scored 11 knockouts in his 16 wins. But you do fear a puncher’s chance is his only real hope against Romero.
A cornered man is dangerous, particularly in pro boxing. Romero will have heard the premature prescriptions of his downfall. Still only 28, he will understandably be reluctant to listen. While he has been twice-beaten, those losses came against excellent fighters. ‘Tank’ Davis might just be one of the best fighters of this era. Cruz has been at or near the top of two divisions for a number of years. These losses were setbacks, but not fatal ones.
We will likely learn very little about Romero on Saturday. I feel like this fight will be close to a procession. A proof of concept for promoters looking to match Rolly a little tougher. A justification to line up a more star-encrusted bout next time. While I am reluctant to label any fighter a fall guy, I do feel like Jaimes will fall.
Romero is a 2/5 favourite to do what is expected of him here. Jaimes is 11/5 to send shockwaves through the super lightweight division. A draw between this 140lb pair is 16/1.

Romero vs Jaimes Prediction
I can foresee a straightforward night’s work for Romero in this bout. I’m looking at the middle rounds for a finish here. Romero is primarily a knockout artist and I think he’ll finish this one. You can back Romero to win at odds of 2/5.
