Middleweight prospect Eric Priest squares off with Esneiker Correa this Saturday, November 8. The fight emanates from The Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas on the Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Erickson Lubin undercard. The event will be screened live on DAZN.

Here are my Priest vs Correa predictions.

Priest vs Correa Odds

Correa is the underdog in this one and by a hefty 12/1 margin. Priest is priced at 1/33 while the draw is marketed at 22/1.

Priest vs Correa Fight Preview

Priest’s story is a familiar one. Street fights as a kid, father takes him to a boxing gym to learn discipline, Golden Gloves titles and professional debut follows. Keep winning until the level of opposition provides a gut check.

That gut check is where the well-worn boxing narrative arc branches out. Some unbeaten young boxers get consumed, swallowed like a shark snacking on a some stray plankton. Others, the ones who go all the way, appreciate the bloody nose. The bruised rib. The f**king fight

Which of these diverging paths is Priest on? It is hard to tell, even after 16 looks at him as a professional. The 26-year-old is ranked 12th in the world by the WBA. But none of his opponents appear in the 59 other cumulative slots that make up the rankings of the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO.

Not that Priest has been fighting wastrels. He overcame some rough stuff from the canny Luis Arias to win a unanimous decision last time out. Arias has beaten Jarrett Hurd, drawn with Gabriel Rosado and taken Danny Jacobs the distance. A classic, quality gatekeeper.

Priest’s style is familiar. Low-held left, shoulder roll, rely primarily on reflex over glove as your defensive weapon. Whatever you think of Floyd Mayweather, you cannot doubt his influence in popularising the style. But ‘Money’ did not get hit flush as often as Priest, who often forgets to move his head when exchanging blows.

For his first 11 fights, it looked like that defensive frailty would be compensated for by knockout power. Priest scored nine stoppages in those initial fights. But after moving to 10-rounders, the Texas-born prospect has gone the distance for four fights in a row.

Considering the fact his power seems to be far from concussive, Priest will need to plug the leaks in his defence. His hand speed stands out, his movements are fluid and the shot selection is intelligent. But the mid-range is where Priest is catching punches. If he cannot avoid them, he needs to block them.

For what it’s worth, Correa should not thoroughly test Priest on Saturday. He has one of his last six fights and been stopped in four of them. The sole win came against 0-8-1 Edilan Sharupi. Correa is here to serve a purpose and it doesn’t involve having his hand raised.

Upsets happen. It is, as I always say, why we have the fights. But this looks as cut and dry as it gets. I expect this Priest to wake up unscathed on Sunday.

Priest vs Correa Prediction

This is a chance to close a fairly active 2025 for Priest before he launches an assault on world level next year. After racking up 10-round decision wins in January and May, this bout seems poised for a Priest knockout. I’m taking the favourite at 1/33.
