WBA, WBO and The Ring minimumweight champion Oscar Collazo meets Edwin Cano at the Poliforum Benito Juarez in Cancun, Mexico this Saturday March 29. The bout takes place on the undercard of William Zepeda’s rematch with Tevin Farmer. DAZN will broadcast the fight live.

Oscar Collazo vs Edwin Cano Odds
Collazo is a mammoth 1/50 to win on Saturday night. The underdog Cano is 14/1 while the draw is 20/1.
Oscar Collazo vs Edwin Cano Fight Preview
Minimumweight is not a division that gets much attention in the wider boxing world. If it did, Oscar Collazo would be a household name. 11 fights into his pro career, ‘El Pupilo’ is already gearing up for his fifth world title defence. Not only did Collazo land the WBA title in his last outing, but he also became the first-ever The Ring minimumweight champion.
Being a leading light in boxing’s least-appreciated division comes with plenty of travel. Even in the relative infancy of his career, Collazo has already competed in Panama, Puerto Rico and Saudi Arabia as well as his native United States.
Challenger Cano is in a similar situation. ‘Canito’ has had 16 pro fights, taking in trips to Argentina and Puerto Rico as well as his homeland of Mexico. Cano is travelling once more for this one as he makes his Stateside debut.
Collazo is an overwhelming favourite here and you can see why. But the southpaw is more exciting than he is infallible. It makes for some fantastic fights as well as some nervy moments for anyone in the Collazo business.
Take his wide-but-wicked victory over the gritty Gerardo Zapata. The Argentine came forward trying to make it a war. Collazo obliged and was hurt by a right hand for his troubles. But Collazo’s game was too complete for his challenger and Zapata lost clearly on the cards.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Collazo’s title-unifying win over Knockout CP Freshmart was even more impressive. The Thai star was 25-0 with 12 world title defences on his record. But Collazo thrashed him in seven rounds, brutally exposing the difference in levels between them. A performance befitting a historic first The Ring title fight in the division.
Cano is an unusual pick as a world title opponent. The only fight he has been in that was scheduled for more than eight rounds came in a third-round knockout loss to David Jimenez. Beating Michael Camrona in four rounds for the WBO Latino title in his last fight seems to be what has earned Cano this chance.
I have no doubt he will try and take it with both hands. But Collazo is an uncommon talent. I see him standing atop the division for a good while yet. If anyone is to challenge that superiority, it is one of his fellow champions. But until the unification fights are made, I believe ‘El Pupilo’ is safe.

Oscar Collazo vs Edwin Cano Prediction
I think Collazo will stop his man at odds of 1/8. This is a routine outing for the best minimumweight fighter in the world. A chance to show out before bigger challenges arrive. Let’s hope we see him defending those titles against the likes of Melvin Jerusalem and Pedro Taduran soon.
