Nathan Heaney vs Sofiane Khati Predictions: ‘Hitman’ Heaney gets back on the horse

Former British middleweight champion Nathan Heaney returns this Saturday, February 8 against Sofiane Khati. The bout takes place at the Manchester Arena on the undercard of Derek Chisora vs Otto Wallin. TNT Sports will screen the event live.
Here are Heaney vs Khati predictions ahead of this middleweight match-up.
Nathan Heaney vs Sofiane Khati Odds
Heaney is an overwhelming 1/9 favourite in this one. Unsurprising considering he was once on the cusp of a world title shot. Khati is 13/2 to get this away win while the draw is marketed at 18/1.
Nathan Heaney vs Sofiane Khati Fight Preview
Heaney had it all. A local icon, ‘Hitman’ was inducted into the Stoke-on-Trent Sporting Hall of Fame for his achievements. Having scored a huge upset over former world title challenger Denzel Bentley to capture the British middleweight championship, the world was Heaney’s oyster.
Then came the challenge of Brad Pauls. Heaney and ‘The Newquay Bomb’ battled to a fierce, enticing draw in their first clash. Both the quality of the action and the inconclusive result demanded a rematch.
The pair obliged and offered up another platter of fistic viscera for our delectation. As well as replicating the thrills of the first fight, it was also similarly close. That is, until the 12th round. Pauls had finished the previous round strongly and he kept the momentum going in the form of a barrage of punches against the ropes. Heaney toppled, the referee counted and the ‘Hitman’ saw his hard-won championship evaporate.
“Why do we fall, sir? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.”
As with all truly great wisdom, that morsel comes from Batman’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Its timeless relevance weaves perfectly with Heaney’s predicament. He fell against Pauls. Against Khati, he learns to pick himself up.
For the first time in the Stoke stars’ career, he must reckon with rebounding from a defeat. His opponent is no journeyman, but it is fair to say Khati has been chosen with Heaney’s career renaissance in mind.
Khati has lost five fights and been stopped twice. Those knockout losses came to highly-ranked world contender Etinosa Oliha and EBU silver champion Diego Natchoo. The Frenchman did go the distance with world title challenger Vincenzo Gualtieri in one of those losses.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
In terms of victories, his eight-round points victory over Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan stands out. The Irishman had challenged Erislandy Lara for the WBA middleweight strap in his previous bout. Admittedly, Sullivan had a two-year lay-off before facing Khati. But it is still a name victory on a ledger that lacks many of those.
Heaney now has to avoid becoming another once-great name on that record. ‘Hitman’ is 35, but his age is deceptive. He has been at his peak in recent years, with the Bentley win in November 2023 being his career-best work. A strong showing here will put the Stoke hero right back into the mix.
Khati has been in with good fighters, which is a positive for Heaney. If he is to return to title level there is no point in him knocking out some warmed-over relic with a losing record. Khati is decent enough to give him some rounds but non-threatening enough to avoid a career-destroying defeat for Heaney.

Nathan Heaney vs Sofiane Khati Prediction
It is always hard to determine which version of a fighter will turn up after they suffer their first loss. Will they return unbroken and unbowed, picking up where their finest nights left off? Or will they lack that certain something that made them special? Will a piece of them forever be left abandoned in the ring that housed their maiden defeat?
The best version of Heaney easily defeats the best iteration of Khati. There is no way to guarantee we receive the best ‘Hitman’, but I am going to predict that we do. For that reason, I’m going for Heaney on points. The Stoke man rarely secures a knockout, with just six in 18 fights, but I think he’ll comfortably outbox his opponent here. Heaney on points is my pick at 1/1.
