Miller vs Woodstock Fight Preview
Miller had been ordered to defend the British featherweight belt he won from Masood Abdulah against Rhys Miller. But he vacated the belt, calling the decision “a business thing” on social media. Instead, Miller conducts his business against ‘The Lion’.
Miller was an 100/30 underdog going into the Abdulah fight back in February. His unbeaten opponent came in on a hot streak, having knocked out Qais Ashfaq and Marc Leach before out-pointing George Stewart. A former national amateur champion, most expected Miller to be a footnote on the career journey of Abdulah.
But Miller boxed the fight of his life, taking the play away from the Commonwealth champion and leaving with that belt, along with the vacant British crown. There had been signs that Miller could perform under championship conditions, despite his 23.1% implied chance of victory that night.
Miller ran Nathaniel Collins extremely close in a war for the British and Commonwealth straps two years ago, losing via majority decision. It might have been the first loss of the Mancunian’s career, but he proved himself. It was the first title fight of Miller’s pro career and his first 12-round fight. Miller had never competed in anything longer than an eight-rounder going in. Now he had shown his ability over the championship distance.
A points nod over Lewis Frimpong followed, with Miller lifting the English title. After giving journeyman Brayan Mairena the business, Miller had his date with destiny against Abdulah. After dethroning the champion, the 28-year-old sits atop the domestic division, vacated Lonsdale belt or not.
Woodstock is here to challenge that claim. He has mixed with some real top names, but found the step-up to match them beyond him. Former IBF champion Antony Cacace and world title challenger Zelfa Barrett hold points wins over the 32-year-old. So too do Archie Sharp, once a mandatory challenger though his title shot never came to pass, and Irish warrior Kurt Walker.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
None of these men have stopped Woodstock and he has 16 wins with seven knockouts. The 32-year-old might be described as a yardstick, if that is not unfair on his abilities. But he is a fighter who loses to the best but beats the majority of the rest.
If you are Miller, he is the exact sort of challenger you want. A quality operator who comes to win. A foe whose name on your record will open doors. But Miller must beware, because Woodstock has slammed the door shut on a few opponents with their eyes on bigger prizes.

Miller vs Woodstock Prediction
Going into the Walker fight I had concerns about Woodstock’s stamina. He had fought in nothing but four and six-rounders for three years going into that fight. But Woodstock was still swinging down the stretch and only lost on a majority nod.
I think Miller is up to this task, though. He looked so sharp against Abdulah and his English title win against Collins demonstrated a real grit and toughness. I think that will be too much for Woodstock, a reliable performer but not a boxer who goes up through the gears against top domestic opposition. I'll pick Miller on points at 4/11.
