Micallef vs McComb: Sean to make trouble in Fresh Prince’s neighbourhood

Hugo Micallef gets a huge fight in his home district of Monte Carlo this Saturday, December 6 against Sean McComb. The Salle des Etoiles plays host to Matchroom’s latest Monaco event, headlined by Shabaz Masoud vs Peter McGrail. DAZN will broadcast the event live.
Read on for my Micallef vs McComb predictions.
The hometown boy Hugo is a 9/2 underdog. McComb has mixed at the highest level, which is reflected in his 1/6 status. The draw is priced at 16/1.
Micallef vs McComb Fight Preview
McComb comes into this on-the-road assignment in testing circumstances. The Belfast boxer lost his beloved grandmother this week and had to miss her funeral due to preparations for this fight. The strength of mind to go ahead with the bout is creditable. Boxers give up a hell of a lot for their sport.
Micallef is an 11-0 prospect handled by Top Rank Boxing. ‘The Fresh Prince of Monaco’ is a moniker more memorable than any of the men he has beaten thus far. A sixth-round stoppage of 15-15-2 Marko Dmitrovic last time out was his first scheduled eight-rounder. Saturday’s fight is his first outing scheduled for 10.
Fair play to the Will Smith-inspired stylist, McComb is certainly not the easiest opponent for a debut 10-threes. The Irishman is 20-2 and has found some form of late. There was that memorable rout against Sam Maxwell, where McComb had his man on the deck three times while winning widely on points.
Then came that controversial points loss to Arnold Barboza Jr, who went on to edge past Jack Catterall and secure a crack at Teofimo Lopez’s world title. A more sympathetic, or some would say rational, set of judges could have opened the door to championship class for the 33-year-old.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Undeterred, McComb’s fine form has continued with two big victories since the Barboza setback. A keep-busy win over Alexis Nahuel Torres was followed by an impressive 10-round victory over Ben Crocker to lift the IBF European strap. That ranking belt will be on the line on Saturday.
These two are world’s apart in terms of ring experience. Can the home crowd buoy their boy? Or will Belfast’s ‘Public Nuisance’ get the job done? Eyes down.

Micallef vs McComb Prediction
McComb is a superior, southpaw version of Micallef. Both are counter-punchers, but there is less reluctance and a more proactive mindset to McComb’s work. Neither has much power to speak of, but McComb at times has had to grit out results. Micallef’s opponents have not asked those questions of him yet.
McComb will ask all that and more. An accomplished and tricky competitor, he knows all the tricks. I don’t think he will have to reach too deep into his well of those for a win here. I’m picking the Irishman to pick up a rare stoppage at 13/5.
