Mark Jeffers vs Sean Hemphill Fight Preview
Mark Jeffers has been circling a fight with main eventer Callum Simpson for a long time. But while the headliner is talking about Canelo and world titles, he has been more dismissive of the Northern Ireland-born man on the undercard.
Jeffers is frustrated, having seen Simpson afforded opportunities he is yet to receive. At 20-0 you could argue he has done everything asked of him. Jeffers actually set the pace for Simpson’s best win, beating Zak Chelli on points two years before the Barnsley man did. It was just Jeffers’ bad luck that Chelli beat Jack Cullen to win the British and Commonwealth titles in between, meaning Simpson’s achievement came with a brace of belts.
Jeffers can also match the best win of Simpson’s opponent at Oakwell, Ivan Zucco. Both men have scored points wins over the quality Germaine Brown. You can certainly see why Jeffers feels like he deserves a crack at the winner of the European title main event.
But first comes Sean Hemphill, from the very un-European New Orleans, Louisiana. Jeffers will not phase the visitor. Hemphill has an okay-looking 18-2 record with 11 knockouts and those defeats came at a decent level. David Stevens was a star on the rise when he knocked our man out in eight. William Scull went on to win a world title after outpointing Hemphill.
Jeffers would not mind that trajectory. But he is an industrious sort who will not look past this fight. For a man who does not score vast amounts of KOs, Jeffers is on a nice little stoppage run. Ricardo Lara, beaten in two last time out the week before Jeffers’ honeymoon, was keep-busy fare. But knockouts of unbeaten pair Darren Johnstone and Joshua Quartey showed what he is capable of.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
You either have power or you do not, but your approach can make all the difference. Ever the technician, Jeffers’ skills at creating openings are bearing fruit when it comes to stoppages. I am not sure he gets another here, though. Hemphill has the hallmarks of an awkward night’s work.
Not that Jeffers will mind. The Lara fight is not the sort of morsel that fills the belly of a man like Mark. He will relish getting some quality rounds in against someone who has fought quality names. But once his work is done, Jeffers might just be the most interested observer watching the main event.

Mark Jeffers vs Sean Hemphill Predictions
I fancy a distance fight here. I reckon it will be mostly one-way traffic, but Hemphill has enough tricks in his locker honed against decent opposition. The American’s record suggests he does not see this as a “warm body” assignment, even if unfamiliar fans no doubt will.
I’m going for Jeffers to take this on points at 5/6. But if Jeffers really wants to nail down a crack at Simpson, he would do well to take the knockout chance if it comes.
