Lightweight prospect Mark Chamberlain takes on Josh Padley this Saturday, September 21. The two unbeaten 135-pounders will clash on the undercard of Daniel Dubois’ IBF heavyweight title defence against Anthony Joshua. The card takes place at Wembley Stadium, with DAZN PPV and Sky Sports Box Office broadcasting the festivities.

Here are my Chamberlain vs Padley predictions ahead of this fascinating collision.

Chamberlain vs Padley Tips

  • Chamberlain in round 5 @ 6/1

You can make a great case for lightweight being the best division in boxing today. The 135lb weight class boasts champions like Vasiliy Lomachenko, Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Throw in contenders like number-one contender William Zepeda, Keyshawn Davis, Andy Cruz and Raymond Muratalla and it is a potent mix.

But Portsmouth’s Chamberlain is well-placed to make an impact in this stacked division. The Ring magazine has him ranked ninth in the world. ‘Thunder’ finds himself in the top five for the WBC and IBF while the WBO has installed him as their eighth-placed contender. In a category full of massive names, Chamberlain is right in the mix.

A Wembley bow is an opportunity for this boy destined to take on the world to prove he can become a man. ‘Paddy’ has not been mixing in the same shark-infested waters as the favourite, but he has won all 14 of his pro fights nonetheless. Padley certainly isn’t coming down from his Yorkshire home to the ‘Big Smoke’ to lose.

It is Chamberlain who brings the firepower under the arch. ‘Thunder’ has stopped 12 of his 16 victims and is currently on a run of five consecutive knockouts. Chamberlain’s first-round stoppage of Joshua Wahab last time out might have been the best performance of the lot. Wahab is a solid fighter and the nature of the win was quite spectacular.

That display in Riyadh made Chamberlain a must-book for Turki Alalshikh when it came to putting this event together. Padley is a decent opponent. A tidy boxer who does the basics well. ‘Paddy’ certainly won’t shirk anything in this one and will make it a fight while it lasts.

The matter of how long it lasts is the interesting part here. Chamberlain can hit and has taken experienced, quality men out of there early. All signs point to Padley being next, though ‘Paddy’ will be hoping to spring a surprise in the capital.

Mark Chamberlain vs Josh Padley Prediction

I think Chamberlain will end matters early here. He is on a run of destructive finishes and I see nothing in Padley’s game to suggest that will end. I fancy the favourite to wrap this one up in round five at 6/1.
