Cutlegg

Lee Cutler takes on Sam Egginton this Sunday, April 20 at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham. On a weekend positively crammed with British boxing excellence, this super welterweight scrap could be the best fight of all. This high-quality meeting takes place on the Ben Whittaker vs Liam Cameron undercard. Sky Sports will broadcast the card live.

Here are my Cutler vs Eggington predictions ahead of this WBC international silver championship battle.

Lee Cutler vs Sam Eggington Betting Tips

  • Eggington to win @ 6/4
  • Eggington to win on points @ 4/1

Lee Cutler vs Sam Eggington Odds

Cutler is in-form and out in front at 4/7. The always-dangerous Eggington is priced at 6/4. A draw, not impossible given the styles of these men, is marketed at 14/1.

Lee Cutler vs Sam Eggington Fight Preview

Sometimes a fight pops up on a card that leads to a sharp intake of breath followed by a wince crossed with smile. The universal acknowledgement that we could be in for a war. I think the gloves are going to fly in this one.

Cutler is coming off the best fight I saw in 2024, an utter tear-up with bitter rival Stephen McKenna last December. Cutler decked his man twice to scoop a majority decision on the cards and take home the WBC ranking belt that will be on the line on Sunday.

Eggington is no stranger to a barn-burner either. His 2020 points loss to Ted Cheeseman was a scintillating war that gave boxing aficionados something to smile about during the pandemic. You always know what you are getting with Eggington, whose 35-9 record is deceptive.

A few of those defeats could, and perhaps should, have gone another way. From nine losses, Eggington has suffered four that were either a split or majority decision. Another is a loss over the unconventional three-round distance during the peak of the Prizefighter format.

‘The Savage’ has kept up an excellent level of competition throughout his professional journey. Eggington holds wins over good names like Ashley Theophane, Carlos Molina, Frankie Gavin and former world champion Paulie Malignaggi. He has also won the IBO, British, Commonwealth and European belts in his decorated career.

15-1 Cutler is looking to build a similar reputation. After rebounding to a first-round knockout to Bradley Rea early in his career, ‘Chaos’ is doing just that. The McKenna classic, as well as recent victories over Kingsley Egbunike for the vacant English belt, former world title contender Joel Julio and then-unbeaten Stanley Stannard have helped his case.

Lee Cutler vs Sam Eggington - Method Of Victory Eggington on Points

Odds correct at time of publishing.

Eggington is the biggest name that Cutler has fought so far. Meanwhile, ‘The Savage’ has been in with more notorious men than his Bournemouth-born opponent. That is the dichotomy at play here. Despite the pair only being separated by two years in age, 31-year-old Eggington has had more than twice as many fights.

Will the experience gap make the difference? Or will Cutler have the advantage as the fresher man? With both men having a reputation for going to war, will one try and box in order to spring the surprise? A lot at play in this one. Never mind stealing the show, this one could steal a packed Easter boxing weekend.

Lee Cutler vs Sam Eggington Prediction

Oh boy, now you’re asking the question. The sort of fight I love to watch but hate to pick. Cutler is the man in the ascendancy and a fighter I think is destined for big things. But Eggington has that know-how that you only pick up through fighting, and often beating, top competitors.

I actually think this one might have come a tad too soon for Cutler. Eggington is still a superb proposition and I think he takes the underdog win here. The action will be close and astonishing. But I’m backing Eggington to take the surprise decision at 4/1.
