Conkel

Kieron Conway takes on Ryan Kelly this Saturday, November 30 at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham. The vacant Commonwealth middleweight championship will be on the line in this excellent domestic dust-up. The main event will see Sunny Edwards take on Galal Yafai with DAZN broadcasting the show live.

Here are my Conway vs Kelly predictions ahead of this intriguing encounter.

Conway vs Kelly Betting Tips

  • Conway on points @ 20/21
  • Fight to go the distance - Yes @ 4/7

Both men involved in this fight have experience facing some of the division’s biggest names. The fact those outings ended in defeat for both Conway and Kelly means there is even more than the Commonwealth belt riding on this well-matched middleweight scrap.

Conway came unstuck against the highly-touted Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams back in 2022. At the time he was the only fighter to take the American the full 10 rounds, acquitting himself well in Las Vegas.

Kelly has had his own brushes with the best, most notably against Hamzah Sheeraz. The fast-rising Essex fighter knocked Kelly out in six rounds as he continued his inexorable rise up the rankings. Kelly also has a points loss to Michael McKinson on his ledger.

Neither man wants a reputation as a gatekeeper and will be fighting in Birmingham partly to prove that. A win will net the victor a prestigious title and the chance at further big fights down the road. Boxing is usually dictated by momentum and a victory on this stage will give the winner plenty of that.

‘Ruthless’ Ryan did a good job of building momentum after a 2022 loss to now-British champion Brad Pauls. Kelly won three on the bounce including a wide decision over the once-touted River Wilson-Bent. A draw with British contender Gerome Warburton last time out was a slight stumble, but Kelly can still build on an unbeaten run here.

Conway comes into the fight in even better form. Since the Ammo setback, ‘Too Class’ has three victories in a row. After a routine win over journeyman Jorge Silva, Conway has gone back to back with quality victories. First, current English champion Linus Udofia was stopped in six. Then he took seven rounds to score the TKO over China’s solid Ainiwaer Yilixiati.

The 12-round championship distance could prove a point of difference here. Kelly has never fought in a bout scheduled for that distance, though he has gone 10 rounds on five occasions.

Conway has been scheduled to go 12 sessions twice. One was the knockout win over Udofia. The only time he has been all the way was in a draw with the excellent Ted Cheeseman. Will Conway’s knowledge of the deeper waters play a role here?

This looks like a great fight on paper. Well-matched in terms of skillsets and career trajectory. A title on the line always adds a little spice too. Both men have had a taste of big fights and the winner will be acutely aware he can secure further big opportunities here.

Conway vs Kelly Fight Odds

Conway is a 1/6 favourite in this one while Kelly is good value at 9/2. I think this fight is a little closer than that, with the draw at 16/1 certainly worth considering.

Conway vs Kelly Prediction

This is a really tough one to call in all honesty. It is a testament to the matchmaking that this one is giving me pause.

Conway’s recent form has me leaning towards him. While Kelly is unbeaten in four, there is that troublesome Warburton draw muddying the waters. Meanwhile, Conway has three victories on the bounce with two knockouts against good quality opposition.

I don’t see him finishing this one inside, given those two stoppages were only the fifth and sixth of a 24-fight career for Conway. But I do see him taking the win on points at 20/21.
