The fight is going to be shown live on Netflix and will feature eight three-minute rounds with 10oz gloves.

Paul's growing influence on boxing has been evident for quite some time and this is the biggest step he has taken in the sport since stepping into the ring. The YouTube superstar is looking to write more headlines for himself if he can take down the former two-time unified heavyweight champion Joshua.

Following the announcement of the bout, Paul declared: "This isn't an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day.

"A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title.

"To all my haters, this is what you wanted. To the people of the United Kingdom, I am sorry. On Friday, December 19, under the lights in Miami, live globally only on Netflix, the torch gets passed and Britain's Goliath gets put to sleep."

The 28-year-old was originally scheduled to face Gervonta Davis in an exhibition match earlier this month, but that was canned after Davis' former girlfriend filed a lawsuit against him.

This then sparked the speculation surrounding this potential clash, which has been as polarising as every other fight Paul has had since his professional debut in 2020.

He fought at heavyweight against former champion Mike Tyson last November, winning via a points decision. His professional record now stands at 12-1 as he gears up to December's showdown. But Joshua is going to be a much tougher test for Paul.

For Joshua, this will be his first appearance in the ring since being knocked out by then-IBF champion Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

"I took some time out and I'm coming back with a mega show," said Joshua.

"It's a big opportunity for me. Whether you like it or not, I'm here to do massive numbers, have big fights and break every record whilst keeping cool, calm and collected.

"Mark my words, you'll see a lot more fighters take these opportunities in the future. I'm about to break the internet over Jake Paul's face."
