Hughie Fury vs Christian Thun Predictions: Knockout surely for ‘Fists of Fury’

Hughie Fury boxes for the third time in an active 2024 as he takes on Christian Thun this Friday, September 27. The Park Community Arena in Sheffield will host the fight, which takes place on a bumper GBM Sports card.
The festivities include Reece Mould vs Ryan Walsh and Shakiel Thompson vs River Wilson-Bent, as well as a return for former world-ranked lightweight Maxi Hughes. DAZN will televise this stacked card live.
Here are my Fury vs Thun predictions ahead of this heavyweight showdown.
Hughie has become the quietest Fury at a time of rampant publicity for the family.
Tyson Fury is never out of the headlines and will captivate the boxing world again in December when he meets Oleksandr Usyk again. John Fury is a constant presence, brawling at press conferences or charming the nation in Netflix’s At Home With The Furys.
Tommy Fury has crossed over into influencer boxing while courting the reality TV set with his Love Island fame and the fishbowl existence of his recently-evaporate relationship with Molly-Mae Hague.
But Hughie has been largely-absent from the spotlight, neither basking in the glow of reality riches nor parlaying his door-opening surname into pay-per-view riches. This is surprising given the fact Hughie is actually the only other Fury ever to fight for a world title.
That championship fight came in 2017, when Fury took then-WBO champion Joseph Parker the distance. Fury lost via majority decision in a close fight. Unfairly, that night is most remembered for Fury’s then-promoter Mick Hennessy describing his man’s performances as displaying “shades of (Muhammad) Ali”. What should have been Fury’s greatest night ended up marred by this unintended meme.
That world title experience should have been a platform to build on for Fury. He has beaten solid fodder like ex-world champion Sam Peter, Christian Hammer and Mariusz Wach. But whenever ‘The Fist of Fury’ has stepped up in class, as against Alexander Povetkin and Kubrat Pulev, he has lost.
Fury’s obsolescence has been expedited by a long lay-off between October 2021 and the start of this year. It is understood that the heavyweight has struggled with health issues during this time, though nothing has been revealed in detail. During that time, the division has moved on without him.
Just when he looked like becoming a “remember him?” curiosity, Hughie returned to the ring. Wins over Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko and Patrick Korte won’t deposit Fury back into the world rankings. But they will restore fitness and confidence for a fighter that is still only 30. Fury is younger than his cousin Tyson, world champion Usyk and contenders like Anthony Joshua and Zhilei Zhang.
So the rebuild will continue. The offering this time is Christian Thun. The fact Fury’s opponent has not been mentioned until this stage of the article is instructive. Thun holds very little hope of upsetting the Fury comeback trail here.
Thun is 9-1, with a record forged in the lukewarm fires of the journeyman furnace. Two of those nine wins came against 27-20-2 Jason Bergman, both by knockout. Thun’s loss was a majority decision defeat to 13-7 Curtis Harper.
Fury might be out of practice against the division’s best, but his experience is far superior to Thun’s. Fury has fought three former or reigning world title holders and a further two men who have challenged for the belts. He is also a former British heavyweight champion. Fury simply exists on a different level to Thun.
Odds correct at time of publishing.

Hughie Fury vs Christian Thun Prediction
I like Fury here. After a decision win in his first fight back after a long lay-off, he secured the stoppage last time out. I think he’ll wrap it up early again, which is why I’m backing the 10/1 shot of Fury to win in the fifth.
