Griffin vs Cardona Fight Preview
Griffin felt ready-made for against-the-odds boxing stardom. Wrongly incarcerated for murder in his youth, inspired by the story of Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter, another falsely-imprisoned pugilist, Griffin emerged from the shadows and into the light.
The pieces were in place. Movie-worthy life story. 17-0 record. Backing from Brian ‘BoMac’ MacIntyre and training camps with Terence Crawford, who the veteran trainer even compared Griffin to. But then disaster struck last June.
Griffin boxed on Jake Paul’s last pay-per-view, hoping to maximise a global audience with his cinematic life story and in-ring technique. But life is not a movie and underdog Julian Rodriguez knocked Griffin out in the 10th round.
Griffin had knocked his man down and was leading on the scorecards when a left hook from hell ended his night with just five seconds left. It was a devastating and ironic fate for the man nicknamed ‘The Underdog’ in a fight where he was the betting favourite going in.
If there is one lesson to be taken from the life of Avious Griffin, it is to never give up. On yourself, your principles or your ambitions. So the man who has already survived a spell in prison for a crime he didn’t commit now looks to rebound once again.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Cardona is 10-1 with a points loss to unheralded Angel Rebollar the only blemish on his ledger. His level of competition has been poor with his most high-profile win coming on the undercard of Caleb Plant vs Jose Resendiz. That night, Cardona knocked down 10-1 Elijah Williams on the way to a split decision win.
Cardona is a long-shot for this one, but so was Rodriguez before he spectacularly KO’ed Griffin. The underdog will fancy this, with the favourite having shown vulnerability recently. But Griffin approaches this fight knowing this is his last realistic opportunity at lasting success as a pro.

Griffin vs Cardona Prediction
I think Griffin will guard against complacency this time. A defeat often teaches a boxer more about himself than a victory. I reckon the 32-year-old will pull this one out of the bag at 1/5.
