Project Rebuild continues for Cuba’s Yoelvis Gomez as he takes on unbeaten Antraveous Ingram this Saturday, November 1. The fight serves as the co-main event for Gomez’s countryman, heavyweight contender Lenier Pero, who headlines opposite Manchester’s Jordan Thompson.

The Matchroom card will take place at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. Paris 2024 Olympians Pat Brown of Team GB and Team USA bronze medalist Omari Jones also fight on the DAZN event. Read on for my Gomez vs Ingram predictions.

Gomez vs Ingram Fight Preview

Gomez was an eye-catching, unbeaten, gun-slinging knockout artist with seven stoppages from eight wins in June 2023. Only Jorge Cota had taken him the distance, a gatekeeper whose only losses at the time had come at the hands of former or future world champions. ‘La Joya’ was expected to continue his inexorable rise when he met middleweight fringe name Marquis Taylor in July 2023.

But, despite having just three knockouts in 14 wins, Taylor put Gomez down in the second round. Taylor then befuddled and battered the Cuban the rest of the way, taking the big upset via unanimous decision.

Taylor has not lost since and is now world-ranked at 160lbs, so the upset has not aged too badly. On reflection, Taylor was perhaps a case of too much, too soon for the big-punching Gomez.

Gomez also has not lost since that first career reverse two years ago. A pair of knockout wins in scheduled eight-rounders restored some shine last year. Then just two months ago, Gomez made his debut down at super welterweight with a majority decision win over Edwin Humaine Jr.

That bout taught us a lot about Gomez. Those wondering how the 28-year-old would deal with pressure, resistance and guile had their questions answered. It was close, but Gomez rode the storm. He looked composed. The Cuban dealt with an opponent who would not stop by simply mastering him without being mastered.

Emboldened by that win, Gomez gives himself another nightmare to try and sleep through in long-limbed, 6’1 Ingram. A fellow southpaw and one that has won all 12 of his pro fights, the Kissimmee will also bring Floridian support. Fair play to Gomez, there were easier fights out there than this.

But then easy gets you nowhere, ultimately. We have seen Gomez win easily. We have seen him lose badly. We have seen ‘El Joya’ come back from the brink. Now is the time we see him solve a puzzle.

Ingram’s ceiling is still unknown. ‘Yamz’ has not yet strayed above six round fights and always against novices or journeymen. But then Taylor was not a fighter of renown until he hijacked the Gomez hype train. The Cuban must guard against complacency and win well in Florida.

Gomez vs Ingram Prediction

Sometimes, a loss can do more for a fighter than a win. Think Amir Khan learning to block his chin, at least for a while, after Breidis Prescott bounced him off the Manchester mat. I think Gomez knows what went wrong with Taylor and I do not expect to see a repeat here.

I’m backing Gomez to get the victory at 4/9. I think the unconventional Ingram will pose problems, but not enough to beat the Cuban.
