Liddard is a comfortable 1/14 favourite for this one. Sutton is priced up at 7/1 while you can back the draw at 20/1.
George Liddard vs Aaron Sutton Fight Preview
This is an eliminator to fight the winner of the evening’s chief support contest. Commonwealth champion Kieron Conway faces Gerome Warburton for the vacant British middleweight championship in the co-main event. The idea being that either Liddard or Sutton will be up next.
That is complicated by Conway’s mandatory status for the European title, currently held by Denzel Bentley. With the latter looking set for a world title rematch with Janibek Alimkhanuly, the middleweight picture is wide open.
But all that comes later. First, Liddard and Sutton battle for their chance. One is an undefeated prospect already making waves. The other is an ex-Southern Area champion with dreams of the Lonsdale Belt. There is everything to play for in London.
Liddard is only 22, but he has done the work. Turning over in 2022, after the requisite journeyman scraps in his first year as a pro, he has taken on increasingly-tough challenges.
Liddard became the first man to defeat George Davey in a battle of the prospects, stopping ‘G Force’ in five rounds. Italian veteran Omar Ilunga was expected to stretch him, coming in with a 31-2-1 record. Not only did Liddard beat him, but he became the first man to stop him too. The youngster had Ilunga out of there in one round after a trio of knockdowns.
So now is the time for another step-up in quality. Sutton is hardened and ambitious. This is not a fellow starlet or a veteran on the way out. This is a 27-year-old in their physical prime, fighting for a second chance.
Sutton lost an agonising split decision to Warburton in a British title eliminator last year. Now he has to watch his sole professional conqueror take the championship fight ahead of him. Sutton has won three fights since, his most recent in March. Activity is the best policy in a stacked division when you want to get noticed.
The fact that this fight takes place on the same night as the title bout adds spice. The platform, with 8000 people expected at the Copper Box and plenty more watching on DAZN, adds prestige. But ultimately it comes down to what these two can offer on the night.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Liddard can punch, but he has the staying power to go with it. Derrick Osaze, the best fighter on Liddard’s resume and an excellent pro, took him the full 10 rounds last time out. But Liddard the rising star acquitted himself well and took a unanimous decision in a competitive outing.
It is another tough opponent for Liddard, but you get the idea the Billericay boy wouldn’t have it any other way. The same goes for Sutton, who finally gets the chance he has been waiting for.

George Liddard vs Aaron Sutton Prediction
I give the edge to Liddard for two reasons. Firstly, his recent opposition has been better than that of Sutton. I think he will come in sharper, having fought the toughest three opponents of his career in back-to-back fights, though admittedly he made Ilunga look easy. Sutton has faced journeymen exclusively since the Warburton defeat, which requires a different skill-set entirely.
Secondly, I think Liddard has the superior power. His six knockouts in 11 wins is superior to Sutton’s three in 20 bouts. If the leather flies and this one goes down to the wire, Liddard has that one extra string to his bow.
I think it will be a factor, but not the deciding one. I actually see Liddard going the distance here, emerging with the points victory at 11/8.
