Keith Thurman to win by KO/TKO @ 11/2
I started setting this article up earlier in the week and have just had to delete my title of 'Towering Inferno to burn One Time'.
I fully came into fight week with no other thought than Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1 (14ko)) to dominate and win this fight fairly comfortably. However, the more I watch and read, I believe that Keith Thurman (31-1-1NC (23ko)) can pull off one almighty shock victory.
Fundora is seen as some sort of unbeatable 6ft6in wrecking ball at this weight level, yet the more of his fights I watch back, the more flaws I see in his technique. Yes, the 28-year-old has freakish physical attributes in the 154lb division, literally living up to his moniker and 'towering' above all his opponents. He also has ridiculously long limbs and his reach gives him a massive advantage when fighting at distance.
However, more often than not, the Florida native chooses to negate all these natural advantages and fights in the pocket. Basically put, Fundora loves a tear up and can't help himself. He also has a nasty tendency to stand square and not move his head, which is a massive target for anyone who can land the killer punch.
Brian Mendoza did just that back in April 2023, with a knockout of the year contender finish of Fundora. The previously undefeated giant looked like a new-born giraffe as Mendoza detonated several times to send his slender legs wobbling all over the place and ultimately to the canvas.
Fundora has since followed that up with a trio of impressive wins over Tim Tszyu (twice), as well as a KO victory over Chordale Booker. In the last fight against the Australian Tszyu, he did fight better at range but was still caught several times by the dangerous opponent.

As for Thurman, where do we start? After a stellar welterweight career where 'One Time' raced to a 29-0 record and registered superb victories over Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia amongst others, Thurman virtually vanished from planet boxing following his split decision loss to all-time-great Manny Pacquiao in 2019.
Since then, he's fought just twice! Once in 2022 against Mario Barrios, where he won a clear decision victory and then three years later again in March of last year, where he demolished young Australian prospect Brock Jarvis in front of his home crowd. Now, it looks like the 37-year-old is ready for a proper fight and return to boxing, taking on one of the most feared fighters in boxing today up at light middleweight.
Huge questions remain about whether Thurman has what he once had at his increasing age and just two fights in almost seven years is hardly ideal preparation. Yet, I liked what I saw in that KO win over Jarvis and Thurman looked to still possess the great footwork, head movement and perhaps, most importantly, punch power he was once renowned for.
I could be made to look silly by this prediction come the early hours of Sunday morning; if he sticks to range and boxes on the back foot, Fundora should pick Thurman off at will and pick up easy rounds.
However, if he once again gets drawn into a fire fight then Thurman could have a field day and hooks to head and body, as well as a explosive uppercut could see the Towering Inferno get taken down again.
