Fulton vs Foster Predictions: Can ‘Ice Water’ drown ‘Cool Boy Steph’?

Stephen Fulton looks to add the WBC super featherweight belt to his collection against fellow titlist O’Shaquie Foster this Saturday, December 6. ‘Cool Boy Steph’ is the reigning WBC featherweight champion as he looks to double-up on title gold at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
The bout serves as chief support for Isaac Cruz’s WBC interim super lightweight title defence against Lamont Roach. Prime Video PPV will air the event live. Here are my Fulton vs Foster predictions.

This is a close one. Betfred can’t split them, with Foster and Fulton both starting at 20/21. The draw sparkles when a fight is this close. 12/1 if you fancy the stalemate.
Fulton vs Foster Fight Preview
Champion vs champion fights are a rare treat in boxing, but one to be cherished. There is something intoxicating about a reigning titlist trying their hand against the best another division has to offer. Like two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua fighting WBA-ranked cruiserweight Jake Paul. Maybe not.
But all jokes aside it is a thrilling prospect. Terence Crawford wrote history this year when he stepped up as reigning WBA super welterweight champion to defeat undisputed super middleweight boss Saul Canelo Alvarez. There is something special about a world champion proving that weight divisions are temporary but class is permanent.
Fulton is not being asked to make the 14-pound jump that ‘Bud’ Crawford managed. But it is worth noting that he is a former super bantamweight champion. Eight pounds is a big difference when you are fighting in the smaller weight categories.
Fulton’s WBC and WBO super bantamweight championship reign ended as every recent titlist’s did; at the ferocious fists of Naoya Inoue. ‘Kaibutsu’ laid a colossal beating on ‘Cool Boy Steph’ over eight rounds back in July 2023.
Supporters would say Stephen has been considered in his comeback. Detractors would label his trajectory as slow. In 2024, his sole outing was a split decision win over fringe contender Carlos Castro. The fact Fulton had to climb off the deck in that one did not bode well for his future.
But Fulton turned expectations on their head when he out-scored Brandon Figueroa to capture the WBC featherweight belt in February. He went in as the underdog at 7/4 despite holding a previous win over Figueroa. At the time it looked like Castro had just emphasised the obvious; that Fulton was not the same since facing Inoue.
But a brilliant performance and a unanimous points win over Figueroa brought renewed respect and a title in a second weight class. Now Fulton has leveraged that position to chase yet another championship.
In his way is Foster, a supremely talented fighter who has endured a pothole-laden road to stardom.
A talented amateur prospect who missed out on Team USA’s London 2012 contingent by a whisker, a promising pro career was derailed when he was arrested for attempted murder. He would be incarcerated on the lesser charge of aggravated assault. While inside the walls at Harris County Jail in Houston, Terence Crawford’s 2017 victory over Julius Indongo, and particularly the switch-hitting style ‘Bud’ utilised, inspired Foster to return to the sport upon his release.

That penitentiary is less than a three-hour drive from Saturday’s fight venue. But it could not be further away from the Foster of today. A two-time WBC super featherweight champion, ‘Ice Water’ holds wins over world level names like Robson Conceicao, Rey Vargas, Eduardo Hernandez and Abraham Nova.
That is a fine list of scalps, but Fulton is a level-up even on that lot. This is a double-tough title defence for Foster. But the pair are neck-and-neck in the markets at press time. Promoters love to trot out the phrase ‘50-50 fight’. But this bout really is a pick ‘em.

Fulton vs Foster Prediction
The most surprising element of Fulton’s last outing was how he took the play away from a Figueroa who I believe was at his best. At a higher weight, Fulton absorbed the incessant pressure-fighter’s best shots and turned his boundless energy against him. ‘Cool Boy Steph’ stayed as calm as his name suggested and pulled away for a deserved points win.
Up to another six pounds will sit on the Fulton frame on Saturday. But Foster is not the sort of fighter Figueroa was. He will not be looking to out-size and smother his opponent. A consummate counter-puncher, O’Shaquie will wait-and-see before firing back. His fights are often untidy and almost always close.
I’m giving the edge to Fulton here. If he takes to the weight, I think he is the fighter who will stand in the pocket longer. Stephen is every bit the counter-puncher Foster is, but with a more attack-minded bent when he needs it. Fulton’s eight knockouts in 23 wins does not lend itself to super featherweight power. But I reckon ‘Cool Boy’ can relax with the belt around his waist when the 12 rounds are done. Fulton on points is the pick at 6/4.
