Fisher vs Balaz Odds

Fisher is a huge favourite to get back into the win column here. The proud Essex lad is 1/12 to get the job done. Balaz has a puncher’s chance at 17/2. The draw is priced at 16/1.

Fisher vs Balaz Fight Preview

‘The Romford Bull’ has had a chance to take stock after a rollercoaster year. Last Christmas, Fisher gave Dave Allen his heart. He won a hotly-disputed split decision over ‘The Doncaster De La Hoya’ in Riyadh, climbing off the canvas to do so.

The court of public opinion ruled that a rematch was needed and Matchroom obliged this past May. But rather than ram home his superiority, Fisher was knocked out in five savage rounds. It was a brutal reality check for the popular 26-year-old.

The keyboard warriors wielded their typing fingers with the same ferocity that Allen had thrown his fists. Fisher was written off as a ‘ticket seller’, a derisory insult used to degrade boxers with big fanbases who come up short of world level.

But when did boxing fans decide every fighter needed to be capable of lifting the world heavyweight championship? British fans have been spoiled over the last decade. Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois and current WBO kingpin Fabio Wardley have all held world heavyweight gold. But this era has been the exception that proves the rule.

No British heavyweight held a world title between Lennox Lewis’ retirement in 2004 and David Haye slaying the goliath of Nikolai Valuev in 2009. The Audley Harrison/Matt Skelton/Danny Williams/Michael Sprott merry-go-round was a strictly domestic concern, pulling big ITV audiences as they swapped British, Commonwealth and European honours. All but Sprott fought for world titles. Harrison, Skelton and Williams all lost in those challenges.

Before Lewis first tasted WBC title success in 1992, there hadn’t been a British holder of a world heavyweight for over 95 years. The term ‘horizontal heavyweight’ was applied to UK fighters in the blue riband division.

Allen and Fisher’s two battles were bruising British scraps. Neither man is likely to join AJ, Fury and Lennox in the pantheon. But they are two brave, exciting and worthy warriors nonetheless.

Fisher comes back at an exciting time for the domestic division. Jeamie TKV has just captured the vacant British belt in a thriller with Frazer Clarke. Allen is rumoured to be in the hat to fight the Tottenham puncher. David Adeleye is the previous holder of the Lord Lonsdale belt and he just went up in the estimations of many with a fine display in defeat to Filip Hrgovic.

Hughie Fury has led a lowkey existence but he keeps winning, having stopped Michael Webster in one round last week. World class cruiserweights Lawrence Okolie and Richard Riakporhe are a couple of fights into their respective heavyweight journeys. Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte are still around in their dotage. Youthful knockout monster Moses Itauma is a dangerous prospect but a few of the above will fancy it, I’m sure.

There are so many options at British level and, while few are likely to unseat Oleksandr Usyk or even Wardley, they can provide some exciting fights in British rings. Fisher will want to be right at the epicenter of the action. He must win here to make that possible.

Balaz is the boxer charged with boshing the ‘Bosh’ man, after original opponent Herbert Motavu withdrew. While he is a huge underdog, he is no journeyman. At 7-0, the reigning Czech heavyweight champion has five knockouts on his brief record.

The underdog’s biggest win so far was the one that clinched him the domestic title. Tomas Salek was KO’ed in two rounds. A decent result on paper, but Nathan Gorman and Richard Torrez Jr have both taken the same opponent out in the first stanza.

The rest of Balaz’s bouts have come against either debutants or journeymen. Nothing wrong with that after seven fights. But Fisher is likely to provide a rude awakening for the inexperienced Balaz.

Fisher vs Balaz Prediction

I reckon Fisher will start with a bit of caution. His last two fights saw him ship some brutal punches. ‘The Romford Bull’ was on the deck in both, the latter ending in a fifth-round knockout. That chastening experience tends to cast a shadow on a fighter’s psyche.

But Johnny is making all the right moves. A switch of trainer is often the jolt an ailing fighter needs. Out goes Mark Tibbs, amicably it must be said, and in comes Tony Sims. Fisher’s new trainer has guided the career of Conor Benn from day one and has recently been appointed as Daniel Dubois’ new coach as he looks to rebuild post-Usyk.

I like Fisher here. I think a bit more consideration in his work and a sprinkle of defensive acumen could get a real performance out of the likable ‘Romford Bull’. If you fancy Johnny to ‘bosh’ his way to victory it’s 1/12.
