Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Predictions: Who will end up with egg on their face?

Chris Eubank Jr takes on Conor Benn this Saturday, April 26 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The middleweight bout will be screened live on Sky Sports Box Office and DAZN with a stacked undercard featuring the likes of Anthony Yarde, Liam Smith and Chris Billam-Smith.
Here are my Eubank vs Benn predictions ahead of the resumption of this generational blood feud.

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Odds
Eubank Jr comes into this fight as the 4/7 favourite to secure the win, while Benn is 6/4 to do what his father couldn't. The second bout between their seniors ended in a controversial draw, and 16/1 is the price for history to repeat itself.
Eubank to win on points is up at 3/1, while Betfred have also given us several price boosts for this event. Benn to be knocked down is now 1/1, three or more knockdowns is 5/2 and both fighters to stay on their feet over the 12 rounds is 4/1. Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Fight Preview
This is the second time I have written a preview for this fight. The first one was made because of the iconic rivalry between their fathers. The match-up was revived because of the genuine dislike fostered when the first one was called off after Benn failed an anti-doping test.
The National Anti-Doping Panel cleared Benn to return to UK action, after he had been continuing his campaign in America. The bitterness Benn and Eubank share has brought this controversial fight back around. The first date was about the dads. This second one is about the sons.
That doesn’t mean this fight would be happening without Chris Sr and Nigel. If the two British icons had not shared a pair of furious, personal, exhilarating battles in the 90s then we would not be here now discussing this bout. Without the Hall of Fame fathers, Conor Benn would not be leap-frogging two weight divisions to fight Chris Eubank Jr.
But we have landed here, just days out from the biggest non-heavyweight fight in British boxing since Carl Froch’s rematch with George Groves. Like Eubank-Benn, that fight was fuelled by controversy and a vehement dislike between the opponents.
Eubank and Benn’s build-up has become most defined by an errant egg of all things. The former slapped the latter with the breakfast favourite at a press conference in Manchester, causing a mass brawl that even saw promoters Eddie Hearn and Ben Shalom caught in the crossfire.
A tense exchange outside a lift was circulated on social media soon after, with Benn agitatedly shouting at his foe. This is the new warfare. Imagine if their dads had the battlefield of the internet to mobilise.

Ultimately though, Eubank can’t bring an egg to the ring on Saturday and Benn will have to fight him in a boxing ring rather than an elevator. Perhaps most importantly, Nigel and Senior can’t fight for them. So how do the pair match up when we take away the WWE-style elements of this build-up?
Eubank has the size. He has fought as high as super middleweight, but has settled at Saturday’s middleweight limit of 160 pounds since his 2019 win over former world champion James DeGale.
Benn is the bigger power puncher. But he is without a knockout victory since putting Chris van Heerden down in two rounds in April 2022. We also don’t know if ‘The Destroyer’ can live up to that moniker at middleweight.
Most active fighters and ex-pros I have spoken to have favoured either a Benn stoppage or a Eubank decision. I would always defer to the knowledge of Olympic medalists and former world champions. But I am surprised there was little appetite out there for a Eubank stoppage. His sheer size advantage and back-to-back knockouts of Liam Smith and Kamil Szeremeta surely make this a possibility, if not a likelihood.

Pound-for-pound, Benn hits harder. But those 14 career knockouts have come exclusively against welterweights. Rodolofo Orozco and Peter Dobson have taken him the 10-round distance in his two most recent outings. ‘The Destroyer’ is out of practice when it comes to destroying.
But the prevailing view of Eubank as the boxer and Benn as the puncher carries weight. Like everything with this fight, perception is everything. Eubank should be the artisan. Benn should be the wrecking ball. This fight should be every bit the classic that Nigel vs Senior was. They should be their dads. But they aren’t, crucially.

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Prediction
I have polled the boxing world on this matter and opinion is split. There is strong backing on both sides, as you’d hope for when the bout in question is a hotly-anticipated stadium main event.
I personally cannot see past Mr Eubank. Not simply by virtue of being the bigger man, either.
Eubank has faced the higher level of opposition, having beaten ex-world champions like Smith, DeGale and Arthur Abraham. Even his three defeats have all come against former or reigning world titlists.
Benn is yet to mix in those circles, which is understandable given he is seven years younger than Eubank at 28.
But that extra bit of know-how will make all the difference. Wherever this fight goes, whether it is a firefight or a chess match, I just think Eubank has what it takes to turn it in his favour.
Given the occasion and the absolute disaster that would unfold if he lost, I’m taking Eubank to box his way to a decision here at 4/7.
