British cruiserweight champion Cheavon Clarke gets a chance to add another belt to his mantle this Saturday, December 14. The Team GB Olympian squares off with unbeaten Frenchman Leonardo Mosquea for the vacant European title at Salles des Etoiles in Monte Carlo. DAZN carry the event live on their platform.

Here are my Clarke vs Mosquea predictions ahead of this cruiser bruiser.

Clarke vs Mosquea Betting Tips

  • Clarke to win @ 1/4
  • Clarke by KO @ 13/8

Cruiserweight is a division that has been kind to the Brits over the years. The legendary Johnny Nelson holds records as both the longest-reigning cruiserweight champion in history and the one who faced the most different opponents (13). David Haye, Tony Bellew, Glenn McCrory, Carl Thompson and Enzo Maccarinelli have flown the divisional flag as British world champions while, in recent years, Lawrence Okolie and Chris Billam-Smith have belted here too.

With Billam-Smith recently losing his WBO title to Gilberto Ramirez and Okolie moving to heavyweight via the nascent bridgerweight ranks, there is room at the weight for more top Brits. Richard Riakporhe is highly-ranked, as is Callum Johnson.

Clarke is currently world-ranked by all four major sanctioning bodies. A mighty feat considering the alphabet cartels can rarely agree on anything. But the amateur standout has made a lot of ground in his 10-fight career so far. Now he aims to conquer the continental scene before moving on to world class.

Standing in his way is Mosquea, an undefeated 15-0 at largely-domestic level in France. His biggest win came over 12 rounds against countryman Dylan Bregeon. His foe is familiar to British audiences who will have seen the likes of Billam-Smith, Riakporhe and Isaac Chamberlain beat him.

Mosquea has shown he can deal with a divisional gatekeeper. But now he gets a rising star with a huge amateur pedigree in Clarke. Jamaica-born Cheavon might not have medalled in Tokyo, but he has hardware from the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships. That procession has continued in the pros.

Clarke’s fourth-round TKO of Tommy McCarthy in January of this year established his move from novice pro to rising contender. A follow-up knockout of former world title challenger Ellis Zorro kept the momentum going, netting Clarke the British title.

A majority decision nod over Efetobor Apochi in his last fight was a lot closer. But Clarke emerged with credit and a victory from a thrilling collision. Now he looks to annex European honours and end his superb 2024 on the highest of notes.

Mosquea has performed well in his 15 fights but he has never seen anyone like Clarke. This will be an interesting fight for him. Either the glass ceiling will bounce off his head, or he will smash through it and shock the world. He is an underdog but far from a no-hoper. This is a challenge for Cheavon. A real fight to end what has been a breakout year.

Clarke vs Mosquea Prediction

I think Clarke will put on a performance here. He is on a cracking run and looks primed for a massive 2025. I’m glancing towards the knockout for this one. Why not? Cheavon to end the year with a bang at 13/8.
