WBC interim super lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron defends her title against Patricia Berghult this Saturday, November 2. The fight takes place as chief support for Liam Davies vs Shabaz Masoud at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham. TNT Sports will carry the fight live.

Here are my Cameron vs Berghult predictions ahead of this title showdown.

Cameron vs Berghult Betting Tips

  • Cameron on points @ 2/7
  • Fight to go the distance? Yes @ 2/9

Cameron is having her second fight since losing the undisputed super lightweight championship to Katie Taylor in their rematch. In May 2023, ‘Il Capo’ became the first boxer to defeat ‘KT’ as a professional with a stunning performance at the 3Arena in Dublin. Despite her victory, she was made to return to Taylor’s homeland for the rematch, which she lost on points last November.

Cameron was all set to fight Taylor in a rematch in May, this time at Croke Park in Dublin. But that match-up was cancelled and the champion will instead face old rival Amanda Serrano on the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul card in two weeks.

Cameron has done everything she can to keep herself in the conversation to face the winner of that bout. The 33-year-old  picked up the WBC interim strap with a majority decision win over Elhem Mekhaled last time out. The scorecard that alleged a draw was way off the mark, as Cameron won comfortably. Now she looks to retain a title that technically puts her next in line for Taylor or Serrano.

Berghult is an excellent challenger in her own right. A 17-1 former world champion, she lost her WBC welterweight title to Natasha Jonas in a unification bout. Wins over Hannah Rankin and Olivia Belkacem legitimise her claim. This is a tough assignment for Cameron while she waits out the logjam at the top of the division.

Cameron left Matchroom for Queensberry after the second Taylor fight. It has been a good move as Frank Warren’s outfit have kept her busy. This is Cameron’s second fight since Taylor last stepped in the ring. While activity alone is not where success is built, it can be an important part of the overall package. Frequent camps and a steady flow of in-ring action can do wonders.

Cameron is a favourite here and some will dismiss this as a gimme. But ‘Il Capo’ would find herself a favourite against any boxer outside the high echelons of the pound-for-pound list. Even within that select group she would be favoured to beat most. To wit, The Ring magazine has her third in their version of the rankings, with only Taylor and Claressa Shields above her.

Therefore even a fighter like Berghult, who was a reigning champion two years ago and hasn’t lost since that defeat against Jonas (eighth in The Ring’s pound-for-pound list), will be a rather remote underdog against Cameron. That is not a damning indictment on Berghult. Simply a reflection of Cameron’s standing in the sport.

Such standing is a temporary quality and something that needs to be maintained. A boxer does so by facing and beating elite competition. Cameron will be in big main events again, as long as she does her job here.

Chantelle Cameron vs Patricia Berghult Prediction

I think Cameron will outpoint her challenger on Saturday night. It has been three years since ‘Il Capo’ has stopped a fight inside the distance and I think Berghult has enough staying power to avoid that fate. I’m going for Cameron on points at 2/7.
